Enchanting Provence house and very large grounds 2km from the village of Viens, with 1-3 bedrooms - a peaceful, rural idyll for daydreamers, artists, hikers and cyclists.

One of many outside seating areas around the house.   L'Arconade seen from its lavender field.

L'Arconade is an 18th century farmhouse with large and rambling grounds extending over 35,000 square metres (8.5 acres) of garden, fields, meadow and woods. The house is to the east of Apt, in the very peaceful part of the Luberon, away from the crowds, in the hills of lavender and olive groves. There are medieval hill-top villages close by, Viens is the closest at 2 km (1.3 miles), and Cereste is 3km away. The market town of Apt is 20 minutes away.

There are many places to sit outside and eat, drink, read or take in the view, if you like doing any of these things you are spoilt for choice here:

To walk around the whole property takes 40 minutes, and these are some of the sights you will see...

At the lowest level of the property is a vegetable garden with solitary pear tree watching over (above left). The owners let a neighbour grow his vegetables down here and in return guests receive his produce with his compliments, as well as his excellent honey. Other fruits that grow here are apricot, cherry, fig, apple, plum and quince. Moving back towards the house you pass the lavender field (above right) and the ancient stone basin (above centre) which still has a very slowly dripping spring feeding into it (but the basin is not suitable for bathing).

Walking up above the house you pass through a field of olive trees (above centre and below right) and then you reach what is called the 'park' (above right) where 100-year-old oak trees and wild herbs grow in an environment that is tended but seems wild, and is the perfect spot for a picnic. There are table and chairs here (below left) and a rewarding view of the house with the mountains beyond. From here you can carry on to the village of Viens on a beautiful 2km country walk, which takes about 40 minutes.

Table at the top of the 'park'.   View of back of house from the top of the 'park'.

The pictures below were taken a short stroll from L'Arconade - this is wonderful hiking and cycling country, the roads are quiet and the scenery is beautiful. Also close by are the stunning Oppedette gorge and ocre-coloured Colorado provencal at Rustrel.
