This stunning, designer 2-bedroom house near Gordes combines the contemporary with a beautiful Provence setting. It can be rented on its own or combined with the 2-bedroom house next door (but the two houses will never be rented separately).

Available for weekly rentals or longer, this property will appeal to a certain type of guest.

A large double-height living room with a wall of windows is a place for contemplation, conversation and music. But not television. There isn't one. There is a rich collection of paintings and artworks, and handsome books on art, travel and an eclectic range of other interests.

And there is a great communion between inside and outside, with a whole side of the house opening onto the gravelled terrace that heads off into the distance between ranks of shading oak trees.

The living room is a fascinating place to peruse - books, globes, astrolabes, paintings, or observe the shifting light in the trees which seem to be an extension of the house. There is a wood-burning stove which is the fireplace, and the floor is in ash wood. A spiral staircase leads to the upper gallery, and the second bedroom.

Off the living room on the ground floor is the uncluttered master bedroom (above) is very restful, and has a large door onto the garden. The bed is 1.6m wide (5'2") and 2m long (6'6"). Between bedroom and bathroom is the dressing room. The bathroom has a bath with handheld shower.

The second bedroom (right) is upstairs. It has two single beds and its own private patio with view over he Luberon, and comfortable seating. It also has an en suite bathroom, with bathtub, handheld shower, basin and separate WC.

Bedroom 2 with private terrace and en suite bathroom.

The master bedroom is to one side of the living room and the dining room and kitchen are on the other side. The kitchen is excellently equipped because the owner is a lover of intricate meals. The stove is good enough to be in a restaurant, the oven is 1.5x size. There is a dishwasher and fridge-freezer, and a central island for food preparation.

The pool is set away from the Art House and you do not see it or hear it from the house. The pool has a resistance swimming option - like a swimming treadmill, a jet of water at one end lets you swim as far as you want without moving.

There is much comfortable seating around the pool, from upright to horizontal.

The owners of the Art House will be living in a very separate house on the grounds, and may occasionally use the pool before or after their working day.

The houses are adjoining but facing in different directions so do offer privacy from each other. They will not be rented separately. When you rent one you rent both and the rate depends on how many bedrooms you use.

In the above table the 3- and 4-bedroom options refer to staying in both the Art House and the Provence House next door. When you rent one you rent both, and the rate depends on how many bedrooms you use. There is also the possibility of a long weekend stay.
