Roussillon vacation rental for two

An ideal 1-bedroom base 500 yards from the splendid village of Roussillon, in a lovely, peaceful setting, with pool. Perfect for a couple, and just 5 minutes walk from the first of Roussillon's bakeries, cafes, restaurants and village life.

The studio seen through its own garden.   10m x 5m pool with steps.

The studio at Lou Cascai is elegantly furnished and warmly decorated in calm ochre tones. The living area has 3 sofas, TV and DVD movies and a small dining table. Screened off is the kitchen with 4 gas burners, and downstairs bathroom.

If you have to stay in touch with home or work, there is a free wireless, high-speed internet connection, so you only need to bring your laptop.

  Beautiful Roussillon, 500 yards away.

Living room seen from opposite sides, with plenty of comfortable seating.

Bedroom on the mezzanine.   From living room to patio and garden.

Upstairs on the mezzanine (pictured above left)is a double bed or two singles and dressing area.

There is a choice of upstairs or downstairs sleeping (as such the studio is perfect for people who can't take stairs). One of the sofas is actually a fold-out double bed with a proper, thick mattress on it, and it is just as comfortable as a bed.

The kitchen has 4 gas burners, combination oven/microwave, fridge-freezer, and clothes washer.

Bathroom has a large corner bath and hand-held shower.

The Garden

From the living room area, big sliding windows open onto the terrace and garden. The terrace has a wooden table and chairs - in Provence you can eat outside for a good 7 months of the year - and is shaded overhead with trellis and cane.

The table and chairs above left is outside the living room, and the view above right is from that table to the garden.

There is a small area of lawned garden on two levels with cypress, olive trees, lavender and planted beds, as well as a shaded pergola - an ideal place to plant a sunlounger.

The studio is an annexe at one end of the owner's house. So if you ever need help with anything, or need local recommendations or encounter language difficulties, she is on hand to help. Otherwise there is no connection between the two properties. The garden and parking area outside the studio are privately yours.

Use of the pool is shared with the owner, but she does not do more than take the occasional dip. The pool has a wide deck area around it (no burnt feet!), pool furniture and a wooden swing-bench. Like the rest of the property, it is well sheltered from the wind - The house is set in pine trees and red ochre crags. Sometimes the mistral blows and then you will be glad of the shelter!

Where is it?

The studio is 5 minutes walk from the centre of Roussillon, officially one of the Most Beautiful Villages in France, and part of the Golden Triangle of the Luberon. This is a location of outstanding natural beauty, encompassing the Luberon natural park, and several perched, hill-top villages amid the valley of vineyards and orchards. Menerbes, Gordes, Bonnieux, Lacoste, and Oppede-le-vieux are a few minutes away by car, while the towns of Avignon, St Remy, Arles, Nimes, Orange and Aix are 90 minutes or less.

Roussillon itself offers many restaurants, cafes and shops, and the fascinating old ochre quarry. This is the village that Laurence Wylie wrote about in A Village in the Vaucluse, and Peter Mayle later wrote A Year in Provence a few miles away in Menerbes. You can see more of Roussillon by clicking here.
