The house is between the Luberon villages of Joucas and Murs, 2.5km from each (1.6 miles). The Luberon is that wonderful part of Provence discovered by Peter Mayle when he wrote 'A Year in Provence' and later 'A Good Year'. The area is known for its medieval, hill-top villages that are perched above the vineyards and orchards. Notable hill-top villages within 15 minutes are Gordes, Roussillon, Menerbes, Bonnieux, Lacoste, Goult, and Oppede le vieux.

Although Joucas is not as known or visited as these, it has everything you need in a small village, and a couple of very good restaurants.

For a guide to the area, including the villages, restaurants and markets, see TheLuberon.com.

Other places of interest within 45 minutes: Lourmarin, Isle sur la Sorgue, Fontaine de Vaucluse, Avignon, etc. The map below is interactive and allows you to explore where it is in relation to the rest of Provence. This is a good base for day trips to the Cote d'Azur, Marseille, the Camargue, Arles, Aix, Nimes, the Rhone wine trail, Gorges du Verdon, the lavender trail, and the Alps.
