Avignon is a great Provence city famed for the beauty of its architecture, its summer arts festival, restaurants and boutiques, the Popes' Palace and its cultural life. It is a place with year-round interest, a small city you can explore entirely on foot, enclosed by its medieval walls. All the ugly necessities of modern life are outside the city walls, the apartment is inside the walls along with everything of interest.

Avignon is very well placed to explore the rest of Provence, from the perched villages of the Luberon to the Cote d'Azur, along with other notable beautiful cities nearby: Arles, Nimes, Aix, Vaison la Romaine and Marseille. It is also the starting point for explorations of the Rhone wine trail.
There are excellent transport links from the UK and Paris, which is the likeliest arrival point for visitors from North America.
