The house and garden are immaculately kept and look south over vineyards to the Luberon mountain.

This is an old house renovated to include the best farmhouse features like stone walls, vaulted ceilings, beams and floor tiles. There is the charm of the old and the pleasure of the modern in this ideal rental house, like high-speed internet.

There is a pretty, walled-in garden, and a pool. If you close the gate, children (and cars) can be safely enclosed within the courtyard and garden.

Bedroom 2 (above), on the ground floor, is another spacious bedroom with an en suite bathroom. The bed is 1.4m wide (4'7" x 6'6"), and the bathroom has bath-tub, walk-in shower, basin and WC. The view from the bedroom is of the garden.

Between the two bedrooms is their shared bathroom with shower and WC.

Garden & Pool

The dining table outside the kitchen with pool in the background.

The square pool is 7m x 7m (23ft), with roman steps at one end, and slopes from 1m in depth to 2m (3'3" to 6'6"). It has either an alarm or a removable fence to keep the pool secure and within the norms of French pool regulations. The fence is intended for when there are small children.

The garden is very pretty, with climbing roses on ancient walls, olive trees and cypresses, and flowering borders.

The garden is walled in and part courtyard, part lawn. When you shut the gate you can keep children in an enclosed, easily observable space. There is covered parking for three cars within the gate.

There are 6 deckchairs and 6 sunbeds, a table tennis table, and an electric barbecue.

The Location

The closest village is Cabrieres d'Avignon, 1 mile away. Cabrieres has a good restaurant, baker, butcher and general store. It is a 'real' village, favoured by families and locals, and not invaded by tourists. All the buildings are in honey-coloured stone and the village is unspoilt. It is a couple of minutes from Gordes in one direction and Coustellet in the other. Gordes is a beautiful hill-top village, perhaps the most beautiful in Provence, while Coustellet is very practical, with many useful stores and a couple of banks.

The house is a short drive from the many attractions of the Luberon, such as the villages of Bonnieux, Menerbes, Roussillon and Lacoste, all members of the 'Most Beautiful Villages of France' association, and all within 20 minutes. Also close by are the antiques market at Isle sur la Sorgue, the crystal-clear waters of Fontaine de Vaucluse, and Mont Ventoux.

Within an hour you can be at famed Provence towns like Aix en Provence, Nimes, Avignon, St Remy, Orange, Les Baux de Provence, Arles and Tarascon. Marseille, France's second city is just over an hour away, and the Cote d'Azur is 2 hours away. A good place to spend a day at the seaside is the lovely little fishing harbour of Cassis, 80 minutes drive away. This is like a smaller, more charming version of St Tropez.

Mostly people who come to the Luberon use their house as a base from which to explore during the day. Le Cabrion is very well located for this, and also for days when you just want to stay home and lie by the pool.
