The dining room is next to the living room and both open onto the pool area. Both rooms are light and spacious and look south to the view. Over the dining room windows there are awnings to keep the summer sun out.

The picture above shows how close it is from the dining room to the pool, so this house is not suitable for children who cannot swim.

Garden & Pool

The garden is 3.7 acres and is on different levels, with lovely old olive trees, cherry trees and oak. There are two bories, which are the dry stone huts built by shepherds long ago, so typical of the region - they are very picturesque and also fun for children.

The pool has the high view over the Luberon valley to the mountain, including Bonnieux and Roussillon. The pool is 9m x 4m, with Roman steps at the shallow end. There is a sliding electric cover which can take the weight of an adult, for security. Next to the pool are sunloungers with mattresses, and a dining table and chairs under the shade of a tree.

View from the garden behind the house. The superb village of Gordes is just 600 metres away.

There are great views from the garden and the pool area of the Luberon plain all around, with its patchwork of vineyards and orchards, and some of the famed hill-top villages of the region - Roussillon, Bonnieux, and Gordes itself.

A quiet reading spot on the south-facing patio outside the living room.

 Dining table by the pool.

The land to the back of the house has its own olive grove.

The garden is not suitable for letting toddlers play in unattended because there are places where there is a 10ft drop to the next level. With this and the proximity of the pool to the house, any children in your party must be old enough to swim.

Villa Gordes borie Villa Gordes bories

In the garden there is an authentic 'borie' - a dry stone hut built by shepherds long ago.

The owners of the Villa Gordes live next door. They are available in the evening if you need help with anything, from language difficulties to restaurant recommendations.

There is parking by the house for two cars. The house is 200 metres away from the road, which is itself a quiet road as it is for residents only.

The Location

Gordes is one of the most beautiful villages in France.

Villa Gordes is just 600 metres from the stunning village of Gordes, which is the biggest of the Luberon hill-top villages, with plenty of restaurants, cafes, shops and cultural events, so it is an ideal base from which to explore the Luberon and Provence.

The Luberon is known for the beauty of its perched villages, in addition to Gordes, close by are Menerbes, Bonnieux, Lacoste, Oppede-le-vieux, Roussillon and many others. Each is a short drive away.

You'll find a market every day at a different village, including the one in Gordes on Tuesday mornings.

Away from the Luberon, the rest of Provence is at most a day-trip away: the cities of Avignon, Aix, Arles, Nimes, Marseille; the natural wonders of the Les Baux de Provence, Gorges du Verdon, the Alps and the Rhone wine trail; the French Riviera (Cote d'Azur) from Monte Carlo to St Tropez. Even Italy and Spain are in striking distance.
