Mas de Brecugne seen from the vineyard and the pool area below the terrace.

Combining the charm of an 18th century stone mas with the modern amenities of a holiday villa, Mas de Brecugne is in an idyllic setting in the Luberon park, 10 minutes walk to the stunning perched village of Oppede le vieux. It sleeps 10 with 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.

Living rooms

Sunny kitchen between the terrace and dining room.

The kitchen (above) is open-plan to the dining room and through the door is the outside terrace overlooking the pool. It is very will equipped with American-style fridge-freezer, dishwasher, two ovens, 5-ring cooker, microwave and a breakfast bar.

Living and dining rooms.

The dining room table (above right) cunningly converts into a hidden pool table when you take the top off. Through the dining room is the living room (above left) with flat-screen TV/DVD player, piano and fireplace. The TV has CNN and other English-language channels, as well as all the French ones, and the house has WiFi internet.

There is a separate laundry room with washing machine and dryer.

There are 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms, including an annex room which is attached to the house and has a separate entrance.

Garden & Pool

The house is in 4 hectares (10 acres) of land, with lawn and woods, and vineyard to the back, right in the Luberon natural park.

The pool area is overlooked from the wonderful terrace with dining table, just outside the kitchen.

The pool is a joy, it is heated and is treated with ozone instead of chlorine. The dimensions are 12m x 6m (40 x 20ft) and it has an automated sliding cover for security. There are sun loungers and giant cushions for relaxation, and the dining terrace overlooks the pool area.

The courtyard to the side is where you arrive at the house.

To the side of the house is the courtyard (above), which gives another option for shaded eating.

House and pool seen from the garden.

View from terrace to Oppede le vieux and Luberon mountain behind.

In the garden are a trampoline, table tennis table, barbecue, hammock and vegetable garden. Bikes are also available.

There is plenty of off-street parking at the house, which is on a country path leading from the village of Oppede le vieux, so there is no passing traffic.

The Location

In the centre of the picture is the medieval village of Oppede le vieux, halfway up the Luberon mountain, seen from the vineyards of the newer Oppede in the valley.

Oppede is two villages, the amazingly well preserved medieval part called Oppede le vieux up on the hill, and down below the more modern Oppede with its bar-restaurant, baker, butcher and small grocery store (where you can even get the Herald Tribune and The Times). The house is 800 metres from Oppede le vieux and 2km from Oppede.

The Luberon's famous hill-top villages are all within 15 minutes: Gordes, Bonnieux, Roussillon, Lacoste, Menerbes, etc.

Within an hour are the splendid towns of Avignon, Arles, St Remy, Tarascon, Orange, Aix-en-Provence, Nimes, as well as the Camargue, Marseille, and the Rhone wine trail. Even closer are Lourmarin, the antiques mecca of Isle sur la Sorgue, and Fontaine de Vaucluse, where the Sorgue river emerges fully formed from deep underground.

If you are coming to Provence to relax rather than take everything in, there is a market every day in a different village close by. The best for local produce is the farmer's market 5 minutes away in Coustellet on Sunday mornings (April-December). And there are wineries all around where you can taste their recent offerings and buy by the bottle or carfull.
