La Jauberte is part of three houses on the same property. The other two are the owners' and the caretaker. The owners are an English-speaking couple who are in residence about half the year. The Location
Some call it the 'real' Provence because this part of the Luberon is more dramatic and less visited than the area to the west with the popular villages of Gordes and Roussillon, which are half an hour away. Here the hill-top villages like Viens, Caseneuve and Saignon are on the road less travelled, but no less delightful.
The eastern part of the Luberon is noted for its wild, natural beauty. This is a land of gentle rolling hills, garrigue and lavender, where memorable hikes and bike rides start right from your doorstep. The English-speaking owners of La Jauberte are keen walkers and cyclists and are happy to share their local knowledge, you may even find yourself helping out at the lavender refinery down the road.
The perched village of Viens is 2 miles from the house and has a small food store, bar/restaurant and specialist honey shop. The nearest town is Apt, 15 minutes away, where you will find supermarket, cinema, restaurants and the biggest market in the Luberon, on Saturday morning all year round.
