Le Fournil

"Le Fournil is the perfect combination of great food, great setting, and a reasonable price. It's built into the rock on which Bonnieux sits and the interior is arty and interesting, you could almost say 'hip' but not in an unpleasant way.But the joy of Le Fournil is sitting outside in the summer, in a little village square crowned by an old stone fountain. Here the décor and furniture is simpler, and it's a fabulous place to feel the wine take over your senses and understand what food in the Luberon is all about.

The food is modern, mixing Provence with outside influences: for instance a cappuccino of mussels and mushrooms; and roast duckling with figs, quince and honey.Fixed price dinner at Le Fournil is 36 euros, at lunch it is more like 25 euros for 3 courses."Le Fournil is the perfect combination of excellent food, fine wines, tip top service and P0rovencal ambience. The beautiful terrace is almost like a stage where the patron has the leading role and the guests play the supporting parts. In one word: Merveilleux. Also be sure to look out for the 'figue farcies de foie gras' and the 'chocolat du moment'. Both are pure excellence."

"A good restaurant with pleasant outside setting in the square. A real find."

"This is a wonderful place. The food, atmosphere and service are memorable. We always try to get back each year, don't miss it and book early."

JH - Ireland - 2009
"Just about as perfect a mood you could wish for - lunch under a canopy looking at the glistening water fountain with the ribblets of sunlight filtering through - with excellent food served by understanding professional waitering staff - dinner even more spectacular with filtered light over white linen table cloths, a wine list to kill for and food that would please the most fastidious gastronome - if this place was open through winter with a raging log fire and the Mistral blowing - it would be the French version of Jamaica Inn - without the cold intrigue of a dubious plot. 6 stars out of 6..."

Jeff Glassco, 2007
"Special place in the centre of a lovely village with a great atmosphere and a good smelling "cuisine" with simply special "effects"."

Ton - Netherlands, 2008
"Wonderful food; great setting and service. A perfect lunch in the Luberon."

Mike of The Sea Ranch - 2010
"The cave is very interesting but could also be described as a bit cold and certainly musty smelling. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The fish was the best I've had in the region and the pate was to die for! The veal, however, was inconsistent. We had 5 veal orders. Three were perfect but two were so full of fat that neither of those people ate more than one bite. It is interesting to watch through the glass wall at the front of the restaurant to see them prepare the food. Lovely town. I'd recommend looking at the inside of the restaurant but eating outside."
Edith Hill - 2010
"More than wonderful food and a great location, the folks working the place are one of the attractions."
