Charming 3-bedroom house with pool, for 6 people, close to Goult, Lacoste and Bonnieux in the Luberon region of Provence. Available for rent in summer.

Across the lawn to the house, which faces south.   The pergola with Goult in the background (in autumn).

Le Veran is a 3-bedroom, 3-bathroom restored house in the countryside close to Goult, Lacoste, Bonnieux and Menerbes, in the Luberon Natural Park. The house is full of Provencal charm and has a wonderful position among the vineyards, with a view across the valley to the village of Goult, and the Monts de Vaucluse beyond.

There is half a hectare (1.2 acres) of garden, and a pool. The pool measures 7.3m x 3.7m (24ft x 12ft) and is 1.1m deep (3.6ft). It has a teak surround and deck-chairs for sunlounging.

One of the best features of this house is that there are three distinct outside eating areas around the house (all are pictured on this page) so you have choices of view, shelter from sun and shelter from wind.

This patio with a view is between the living room and pergola.   The pool is fenced and alarmed, and complies with French pool regulations.

The sunny living room has comfortable seating, a dining table and TV with DVD player. The TV receives the terrestrial French channels. At the far end (pictured on the right) is the open-plan kitchen.

The internal pictures on this page were taken in December, and lack the dramatic light of summer.

The kitchen (far left) is at one end of the living room and has an electric oven, 4-ring cooker (2 gas, 2 electric), microwave, fridge-freezer, small separate freezer, dishwasher, double-sink.

There is a dining table inside and the Moroccan-style outside living area (left) is through the kitchen door, and is the perfect place for a drink with a view. This is one of three outside seating areas.

Bedroom 1 with its beautiful period detail and en suite bathroom with bathtub and basin. There is a separate WC.

Bedroom 1 is on the ground floor. It has a 1.6m wide bed (5.25ft x 6.5ft). There are delightful ceiling beams and louvred closet doors along one wall. A French window opens onto the garden. The en suite bathroom has bathtub and basin, and there is a separate WC.

Bedroom 2 with its two single beds (80cm wide) and en suite shower room.

Bedroom 2 is ideal for children. The beds are two singles which are 80cm wide (standard adult singles are 90cm wide). En suite to this room is the shower room with shower and basin. There is a separate WC, which is also the guest WC, in the corridor between the living room and this bedroom.

Please note that this bedroom is a walkthrough - you have to go through it to get to bedroom 1, unless you access bedroom 1 from the outside, which you can do. So it is best for children.

Bedroom 3, on the top floor.   View from bedroom window.   En suite bathroom with WC.
On the top floor there is only bedroom 3, its bathroom, and balcony. The bed is 1.6m wide (5.25ft x 6.5ft). The en suite bathroom has basin, bathtub with hand-held shower, and WC. This bedroom is air conditioned.

A third outside eating area, the south terrace, is very sheltered.   Layout of the house, showing where the rooms are.

What there is not...please note that there is no phone and no internet at this house. But there is network coverage for mobile phones.

The Luberon is an area of Provence one hour north of the Mediterranean, noted for the beauty of its landscape and its medieval, hill-top villages, which for many people epitomise Provence. The house is a few minutes from the hill-top villages of Lacoste, Bonnieux and Goult, of which it has a superb view. Other gorgeous villages within 10 minutes are Menerbes, Gordes, Oppede-le-vieux, and Rousillon. This is the special part of the world that reached a wider audience with Peter Mayle's 'A Year in Provence', and the recent movie 'A Good Year', both based in the Luberon.

Goult is a village that has slipped under the radar somehow, and is not a big stop-off for visitors to the Luberon. However, it is everything you would hope for in a Provencal village - honey-coloured houses climbing up to a medieval castle, wide country views, terraces of olive trees and stone shepherd's huts, and great places to eat and drink.

For a guide to the area, including the villages, restaurants and markets, see TheLuberon.com.

Other places of interest nearby: Lourmarin, Isle sur la Sorgue, Fontaine de Vaucluse, Avignon, etc. The map below is interactive and allows you to explore where it is in relation to the rest of Provence.

The Luberon puts you a day-trip away from all the notable destinations in the south of France: Aix en Provence, Marseille, St Remy, Arles, Nimes, Les Baux, the Rhone wine trail, the French Riviera from Monaco to St Tropez, the Gorges du Verdon, the Alps - the list goes on and on.
