Fondation Vasarely - Vasarely Foundation

Aix is a city of beautiful buildings, but perhaps the most striking building is a modern edifice which some find wonderful, others an eyesore. The Fondation Vasarely, completed in 1976, houses vast works of the optical artist Victor Vasarely. What is optical art? It is art that makes use of optical illusion, so it tends to be big and abstract. At the Fondation Vasarely even the building was designed by Vasarely, and consists of 16 hexagonal pods.

The art may make you feel like you have gone back to the 1970s. Its scale, simplicity, and the interactivity of gazing at an optical illusion makes this somewhere you could bring children and not bore them to death.

The Fondation Vasarely is 4km from the centre of Aix, and served by buses no. 4 and 6. There is parking available.
