PAOLO'S VIEW: “Rustic hideaway for a romantic couple in a 'secret valley' near Menerbes”

The Location
The house is 1.5 miles from the village of Menerbes.

Menerbes rises up like a ship from the sea of vineyards that run along the Luberon valley and is officially one of 'The Most Beautiful Villages of France'. Menerbes has two levels. On the mid-level are restaurants, cafe, bakery and grocery store. And on the top level you can stroll past grand houses with magnificent views to north and south, as well as the Maison de la Truffe et du Vin (House of Wine and Truffles), where you can buy produce and also have lunch in the beautiful garden. Market day in Menerbes is Thursday mornings from April to October.

From Menerbes you can get to the other picture-perfect hill-top villages of the north Luberon within 15 minutes by car: Gordes, Bonnieux, Roussillon, Lacoste, Oppede-le-vieux and Goult. Within an hour are the must-sees of Avignon, Aix-en-Provence, St-Remy, Les Baux-de-Provence and Arles.

Unique and "special"

Rated 5 out of 5
21st September 2023

The Refuge was a peaceful and ideal location for our 11 days exploring Luberon villages. Marie was a charming host who has created a unique and exceptional setting that reflects the history and beauty of the region. She is a “special woman in a special place.”

We will definitely return when we visit the area again.

Tranquility abounds in this charming hideaway

We loved our stay in the Refuge in this spectacular location. Marie the owner, is not only charming but highly creative. The interior decoration of the house is lovely and the large outdoor living area and surrounding vegetation full of colour. The position of the house is a geological wonder with the integration of the spectacular “wave like” curved limestone cliff into the house, enhancing the feeling of a sanctuary. Day and night this is the ultimate romantic setting.

The unsealed roadway to the house is a little difficult, but one is well rewarded once you reach the Refuge. This property is ideally located for visiting the many charming historic villages nearby. Menerbes is a short drive away and has a well provisioned épicerie/traiteur. Those keen on biking will be well rewarded with the surrounding countryside and country roads.

A delightful cottage in a unique setting. Imaginatively and comfortably furnished by Marie and with a choice of charming outdoor spaces from which to enjoy the tranquility and woodland views.

A hidden gem aptly named

This hidden gem is well named, the perfect refuge in an idyllic setting, 10 minutes from the village of Ménerbes. Creativity abounds in the decor and the lovely garden, all in the capable hands of Marie, the host. The property is accessed by a dirt road, bordered by spectacular limestone cliffs and rocks. The curved “wave” cliff that joins and shelters the house is a geological wonder. For those keen on cycling in the Luberon National Park, this is an ideal base. For those wishing to chill and relax, it is nirvana!

Thank you Marie for your warmth and generosity and for the happy memories that linger!
