Magical memories
We have just returned from two amazing weeks at this magnificent villa and will return in a heartbeat. The whole experience was wonderful from the outset – with the delightful owner and, later, the house managers, being incredibly welcoming, helpful and so friendly – answering all of our questions and advising re local things to do as well as being on hand throughout our stay.
This charmingly rustic villa is quite breathtaking inside and out – with so much space for everyone to do their own thing but also to be together. Plus each bedroom has its own bathroom plus a door outside which was handy for a large group. The grounds were beautiful – and endless. Terraces with different, but equally sensational, views you would never tire of. Plenty of shade. Multiple dining options – we ate each meal of the day at a different spot with plenty of chairs and tables available. Having the additional kitchen in the pool house was incredibly useful for cold drinks as well as lunch.
And then there’s the sensational pool that was so spacious we were able to host our very own Gordes 2024 Olympics! The new petanque court was an added bonus and a delightful way to spend early evenings.
The villa has extremely comfortable beds and is very well stocked throughout. It’s very much a home away from home and we wanted for nothing. As stated, the villa does not have aircon but, even with the late July heat, everyone slept well thanks to plenty of fans and keeping the wooden shutters closed throughout the day.
Gordes is an 8-minute walk uphill – a steep walk but worth it for the views along the way. Every morning we would stroll up to the boulangerie. Tuesdays were spent stocking up at the bountiful market. There are plenty of good restaurants in the village and a small Spar – again, all easily reachable on foot.
We had initially planned on making more day trips than we did but once we got to the villa we found it hard to leave and none of us fancied much more driving after the long drive down. But we did enjoy lovely visits to Senanque Abbey (delightful first thing before the crowds arrive), the Ochre Trail in Roussillon and a beautiful walk around Fontaine-de-Vaucluse – all within 25 minutes of the villa. Otherwise, we just enjoyed stunning Gordes.
I could not have found anywhere better to be for my 50th birthday – we have made so many incredible memories as a family. Thank you.
Gordes is probably the most famous Luberon village, due in no small part to the incredibly photogenic view of it as you arrive. Gordes has a great choice of restaurants, cafes, specialist shops, cultural events, and is alive year-round. On Tuesday mornings the centre of the village around the chateau is taken over by the weekly market. Just outside Gordes is Senanque Abbey, another must-see photo-moment when the lavender is in bloom.
The view from Gordes' high position over the Luberon valley is also spectacular, and you can pick out most of the best hill-top villages of the Luberon, all a short drive away: Menerbes, Bonnieux, Lacoste, Oppede-le-vieux, Roussillon, Goult. The impressive Fontaine-de-Vaucluse and the antiques capital of l'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue are 20 minutes away, the medieval city of Avignon is 40 minutes, and within an hour or so are Aix-en-Provence, St-Remy-de-Provence, Arles, Mont Ventoux, Les Baux-de-Provence, and the Rhone wine trail.

Perfect: great location, authentic rustic villa with large garden & large pool
We had a great 8 day stay in Villa Terrube in September. We will return to this villa soon. Why? First, the location is near perfect – on the edge of Gordes village, so quiet but only 8 minutes walk to Gordes village centre (for boulangerie, small supermarket, cafes, clothing shops, weekly market etc). We have stayed in Provence 8x before and I even lived there for 9 months as a student and this is hands down the best location I have seen for a visiter. Set well above and well away from the road, it is calm, catches the welcome breeze with views across the valley to Roussillon and other hilltop villages. Second the Villa itself. 4 bedrooms in the main house (2 large and 2 small, all with ensuites) spaced apart, a very well equipped country kitchen, a small laundry, a decent sized lounge (hardly used as we tended to live outside) plus a separate pool house (which had a useful 5th bedroom and small kitchen) was more than we needed. The villa is traditional and rustic rather than luxurious. While it wouldn’t suit those who need polished marble and large screen TVs and some could say it could do with a refurbishment, e.g. a couple of the beds are older and some of the plumbing is French, we preferred and loved its authenticity. Additionally it is equipped like a home e.g. thousands of books etc, rather than a rental which made us feel at home! Third, the garden is large (perhaps 1ha / 2.5 acres or more) so very private. There is tons of parking. Lots of shady trees with multiple outdoor lunch and dinner tables. Large attractive fenced pool with lots of loungers. Overall highly, highly recommended. What else: The pricing was reasonable, the owner, Anne, was great to deal with and the guardian was both nice and helpful with recommendations etc.
Beautiful location
We spent a lovely week in this beautiful location. Visiting local vineyards and hill top villages. The pool is wonderful and spent lazy days enjoying a swim and eating on the terrace enjoying the magnificent views.
Perfect house for a family gathering. Amazing views and beautiful short walk to village.
An authentic French home from home, with space to relax both inside and out. Friendly comfortable sitting room, well-equipped kitchen, good oven and BBQ, and lots of different spots on the terraces for group meals, or to curl up with a book. The views are wonderful. The pool is beautiful and a good size for swimming, an early morning wake-up treat! Our early evening boules game was keenly contested, and great fun!
A short and scenic walk takes you into the village for shops and restaurants, and there are lots of outings locally and things to do. We had great cycle rides, hikes and sightseeing, amidst just enjoying down time around the pool. And we couldn’t resist a wine-tasting at the vineyard opposite – on our doorstep!
Terraube is a magical place for a holiday, with something for everyone.
