Delightful apartment in historic centre of market town

The apartment is in a lovely square in the centre of Apt, and has use of the inner courtyard garden.

A delightful 1-bedroom apartment with high ceilings and tall windows in a newly restored 17th century grand house, right in the centre of the Provence market town of Apt. On the first floor up, with private balcony and access to a shared courtyard garden. Arrival and departure days are flexible.

Living Room

The apartment is furnished with antiques from the south of France and has been designed in sympathy with the substantial house it forms a part of. The proportions of the house indicate it was built for a wealthy family. The ancient elegance has been maintained, while all plumbing, heating and wiring is new.

Looking into the living room from the front door. with kitchen to the left. Kitchen seen from the living room, french windows to right.

You enter into the living room with kitchen. There are two very comfortable armchairs around a working fireplace, and the kitchen has fridge, oven, 4-ring gas cooker and coffee machine. There is WiFi internet and no TV.

Big french doors (above left) flood the room with light, and look out onto the inner courtyard garden.

Looking through to the bedroom; eating at the french doors; and the grand staircase up to the apartment door from the ground floor.

Bedroom

The bedroom with its stunning ceiling, and the bathroom with shower.

The bedroom has a beautiful antique iron bed, which is 1.6m wide (5.25ft), and fine linens and cottons. Above the bed is the wonderful 17th century ceiling fresco, depicting the family tree of the original owner - this splendid work was done by artisans from Versailles. The bathroom has shower, basin and WC.

Outside

The apartment has two outside spaces. One is a private balcony coming off the bedroom, with table and chairs for outside eating. And below this is a courtyard which is shared with a 2-bedroom apartment in the same building, rented by the same owners. Access is through a door at entrance level to the building, to which you would have the key.

The Location

Scenes from the market town of Apt .

The apartment is in the quiet heart of the market town of Apt, which is in the middle of the Luberon region. Everything in Apt is an easy walk away. There is the biggest street market of the Luberon on Saturdays. Apt also has supermarkets, cinema, all sorts of specialist stores, restaurants and cafes. Amid the Provencal architecture Apt is a real working town, a good place to embed yourself in local life.

Close by are the famed perched villages of the Luberon - Gordes, Roussillon, Lacoste, Oppede le vieux, Bonnieux, and Goult, as well as the less-known but beautiful St Saturnin les Apt, Saignon, Caseneuve, Joucas and Murs. The Luberon natural park is a small region with a high concentration of beautiful Provence landscapes - the lavender, vineyards and orchards, and dotted around are the medieval hill-top villages.

A day-trip away are Avignon, Aix en Provence, Arles, Nimes, Marseille, Les Baux de Provence, the French Riviera, and the Rhone Wine Trail.

Nearby villages: the castle at Lourmarin, shopping in Roussillon, and a street in Goult.

Absolutely amazing

Words cannot begin to describe how wonderful our stay was in Apt. Partly because of the city but equally responsible would be Paul and Sharon. Their apartment is, as advertised, magnificent and they are as well. When friends ask the highlight of our trip to France the first thing we wind up saying is how amazing our apartment in Apt was. It truly was a highlight. Paul and Sharon are a pleasure to deal with and are incredibly fast in terms of responding, recommendations and overall assistance. We can't wait to visit them in Maine. Thanks so much again!!

A perfect choice

Our first trip to France and the week at this apartment was a standout. We only went out to dinner once all week and really appreciated the kitchen facilities. The photos and descriptions are accurate. We loved the local chevre, olive oil and vegetables from the farmer's markets. We drove up Mont Ventoux and marveled at the cyclists there. We rented bicycles in Apt and thoroughly enjoyed the well-marked, local bike paths in the area. We hiked in the amazing Colorado Parc and up Le Mourre Negro. We also drove to the coast one day for a boat ride in Cassis harbor. Outstanding scenery! Apt is such an unspoiled town in a central location to enjoy the Luberon and the many beautiful small towns nearby. The location of the house is quiet, due to the limited traffic in the historic district. The townspeople were sweet and friendly to us and it was just a joy to experience France this way. Thank you, Sharon and Paul, for your attention to detail. It shows.

Explorers Escape

The Apartment was the base for our initial 8 day visit to the Luberon area of Provence. It is situated in the historic centre of Apt and during our stay we experienced quiet enjoyment of all facilities and were not disturbed by any mechanical or predestrian traffic noise. The Apartment has been restored and furnished in a manner that is sympathetic to the building's extensive history. It provides facilities that enables explorers of the Luberon area to refuel and recharge their batteries after a long day in the field and also allows them to prepare for the next day's adventures. All sites of interest (including Restaurants) within the historic town are within a few minutes walk. A fully stocked Supermarket is approximately 10 minutes walk from the Apartment. Whilst car parking is available immeadiately outside the Apartment, it is suggested that occupants consider using the town's public car parking facilities until they become familiar with the local streetscape. A Laundry is situated with a 5 minute walk of the Apartment. All in all, we were very satisfied with the Apartment during our stay and could recommend it as a good base to explore the delights of the Region. Another tip for motorists is to check with the Apt Tourist Information Centre to confirm the details of Car Parking restrictions for every Saturday, as the Apt Market takes over the historic town centre every Saturday.
