Apt Two, Apt, Provence

Sunny duplex in historic centre of market town

The apartment is in a lovely square in the centre of Apt, and has use of the inner courtyard garden.

A sunny duplex apartment in a newly restored 17th century grand house right in the centre of the Provence market town of Apt. Two bedrooms, two bathrooms, over two floors, with access to a shared courtyard garden below. This apartment is two floors up from street level. Arrival and departure days are flexible.

Living Room

The apartment is furnished with antiques from the south of France and has been designed in sympathy with the substantial house it forms a part of. The proportions of the house indicate it was built for a wealthy family. The ancient elegance has been maintained, while all plumbing, heating and wiring is new.

Coming into apartment, with sofa on left, kitchen/dining straight ahead. Sofa with front door to left.

The first floor entrance takes you into the living room with log-burning fireplace and sofa. Beyond is the kitchen, dining table and one bathroom with shower, WC and basin. With the high windows the apartment is full of light.

The kitchen is equipped with fridge-freezer, oven, and 4-ring gas cooker. The dining table looks out onto the courtyard and the rooftops of Apt.

The apartment has WiFi internet, a small library of English books, and no TV. There is a washing machine upstairs.

Up the stairs are two double bedrooms, shower and WC with basin.

Both bedrooms have a 5.25ft-wide mattress and high-quality bedlinens.

The beds are 1.6m wide (5.25ft) and the rooms have views to the quiet square and over rooftops. Both rooms have high-quality linens and pillows.

At ground floor is a courtyard which is shared with a 1-bedroom apartment in the same building, rented by the same owners. Access is through a door at entrance level to the building, to which you would have the key.

The Location

Scenes from the market town of Apt.

The apartment is in the quiet heart of the market town of Apt, which is in the middle of the Luberon region. Everything in Apt is an easy walk away. There is the biggest street market of the Luberon on Saturdays. Apt also has supermarkets, cinema, all sorts of specialist stores, restaurants and cafes. Amid the Provencal architecture Apt is a real working town, a good place to embed yourself in local life.

Close by are the famed perched villages of the Luberon - Gordes, Roussillon, Lacoste, Oppede le vieux, Bonnieux, and Goult, as well as the less-known but beautiful St Saturnin les Apt, Saignon, Caseneuve, Joucas and Murs. The Luberon natural park is a small region with a high concentration of beautiful Provence landscapes - the lavender, vineyards and orchards, and dotted around are the medieval hill-top villages.

A day-trip away are Avignon, Aix en Provence, Arles, Nimes, Marseille, Les Baux de Provence, the French Riviera, and the Rhone Wine Trail.

Nearby villages: the castle at Lourmarin, shopping in Roussillon, and a street in Goult.

Wonderful 2-bedroom apartment in Apt.

Everything was perfect. The apartment is very chic, extremely comfortable, not to mention convenient. Apt has such character and we liked the mix of demographics. People were kind and consistently warm throughout our stay. For our final lunch we visited Saturnin-les-Apt and chatted and ate for three hours at the Hotel des Voyageurs. What a cosy, unpretentious, lovely place. We felt fortunate to have rented Paul and Sharon's flat for a week. It was a joy to stay in this this historic building and to witness the care and love that has been put into this carefully created space. We look forward to returning and exploring further.

Luberon vacation

Entering the lobby of this house from the 17th century is in itself a pleasure with its old charm preserved, the space and the impressive staircase. This feeling of being immersed in good taste continues when you enter the apartment: respectful renovations, beautiful materials, simplicity and decorative objects... From the kitchen, passing the bedrooms and bathroom, we can feel the attention to detail of the owners who want our stay to be pleasurable, and it was! The apartment is very quiet and being able to enjoy a garden patio below is a privilege in town - the town of Apt which is full of little treasures, and is ideally located to discover a magnificent region . Thank you to Sharon and Paul for their lovely welcome. A couple and a place that we will remember preciously.

Great and aesthetic apartment

We (two couples) spent 12 days in this beautifully restored holiday apartment of a 17th century house. It was a great place to stay, in the middle of Apt with its many shops and restaurants and a good location from where we could explore the Luberon. The decoration of the apartment is beautiful and tasteful and has a great atmosphere. And the patio is a tranquil hideaway. The hosts are very kind and helpful. We would recommend this place to any two couples, but because of the steep stairs it is probably not suitable for childern.
