Coeur de Bonnieux, Bonnieux, Provence

Elegant village gem for 2 with garden

A timelessly attractive 1-bedroom apartment with outside space, on one of the oldest and prettiest streets in Bonnieux, with view of the cedar forest. The apartment is in a quiet location but 2 minutes’ walk to the restaurants, shops and Friday street market of Bonnieux, a wonderful Luberon base.

Living Rooms

The apartment, which is part of a 13th century building, has been beautifully restored to retain its period charm while adding everything needed for a comfortable stay. The original floor tiles and beamed ceilings are in place, the furniture has all been sourced at local brocantes. There is also central heating, WiFi and modern plumbing.

The living room is set around a wood-burning stove for off-season stays, with a table and chairs, and an armchair and chaise longue. There is WiFi internet, but no TV.

The kitchen is equipped with a Lacanche cooker that has a double oven and 6-ring gas stove, fridge-freezer, Nespresso, washing machine and dryer. The sink sits on a traditional potter's bench. Off the kitchen is the atelier, a cool spot with marble sink and an orangerie with two citrus trees.

The bedroom has an antique bed that is 1.4m/4.6ft wide and 1.9m/6.2ft long, and far-reaching view to the cedar forest on the Luberon mountain opposite. Also in the bedroom is a cast-iron roll-top bath. The en suite bathroom has a walk-in shower, basin and WC.

The Location

Bonnieux, one of the most beautiful villages in France, and its weekly market.

The apartment is in rue Droite, a quiet, pedestrian-only street in the upper part of Bonnieux. It's a couple of minutes' walk to the bakeries, stores, cafes and excellent restaurants of the village, which range from simple to Michelin-starred. The very picturesque Bonnieux market is on Friday mornings.

Bonnieux is stunning to look at on approaching, perched above the vineyards of the Luberon valley, but also a perfect Provencal village on the inside, with architecture and winding streets dating to the middle ages. Bonnieux has fantastic views to Lacoste to the west, Mont Ventoux to the north, and the Luberon mountain to the south.

Close by are other beautiful, perched, hilltop villages: Gordes, Roussillon, Lacoste, Oppede le vieux, Menerbes, Goult, etc. all within 15 minutes.

From Bonnieux you are by the cleft in the Luberon mountain that gives you access to the south side: more gorgeous villages like Lourmarin, Cucuron, Ansouis and Cadenet to explore, 20 minutes away, and beyond these, the fine city of Aix en Provence. The Cote d'Azur is 2 hours away.

To the west, within an hour or so are Avignon, St Remy, Mont Ventoux, Les Baux de Provence, Orange, Arles, and the Rhone wine trail.
