Le Cabanon, Bonnieux, Provence

Cottage for two with pool by beguiling Bonnieux

The house is on two levels, with bedroom on the lower level and the living room above. The pool is in the owner's garden next door.

Le Cabanon is a delightful little two-storey cottage for a couple, with wild garden and view, and a 10-minute walk to the wonderful village of Bonnieux, with its bakeries, cafes and restaurants. It has use of the owner's pool next door.

Living Room

The upper floor is living room and kitchen, with the dining table in between.

Because the house is built into the side of a hill, you enter on the upper floor into the living room/kitchen, and the bedroom and bathroom are downstairs on the ground floor.

The living room/kitchen has a sofa and TV by the fireplace - French and English-language TV stations. The sofa can also turn into a sofa-bed, not for extra guests, but in case a couple prefers one bed each.

Next to this is the dining table and then the kitchen which has a 2-ring stove, grill/microwave and under-counter fridge-freezer.

There is WiFi internet.

The TV will be wall-mounted to the right of the sofa, on the left is the fireplace.

On the lower level is the bedroom with a 1.5m-wide bed (5ft).

The bathroom has a shower, WC and basin.

From the bedroom the door opens to the lower garden, which is on the other side of the house from the front door and terrace (pictured below left).

If you prefer one bed each, the sofa in the living room is also a sofa-bed.

Around the cabanon is a wooded garden on two levels with meadow-grass and olive trees. Off the living room is the west-facing terrace (below), with table and chairs, and shade overhead. Guests have use of the owner's pool next door, which measures 13 metres (42 ft) long.

The terrace outside the living room is shaded and is the place for summer meals and relaxation.

There are other outdoor tables and chairs: in the upper garden; and on the lower garden on the other side of the house, outside the bedroom. A swingchair provides a view of the village of Lacoste (below right), and you can also see as far as Mont Ventoux to the north.

There is the option of gated parking by the house. The bi-lingual owner lives on neighbouring land so is easily available for any problems or advice.

The Location

Bonnieux, one of the most beautiful villages in France, and its weekly market.

The house is on the country road from Lacoste to Bonnieux, and you can walk into the centre of Bonnieux in 10 minutes. There you will find a bakery, restaurants from simple to fine dining, cafes and other amenities.

Bonnieux is stunning to look at on approaching, perched above the vineyards of the Luberon valley, but also a perfect Provencal village on the inside, with architecture and winding streets dating to the middle ages. Bonnieux has fantastic views to Lacoste to the west, Mont Ventoux to the north, and the Luberon mountain to the south.

Market day in Bonnieux is Friday morning, and there is a market in a neighbouring village every day of the week.

The location is a dream for hikers and bikers. You can set off on walks right from the doorstep, and rent bikes in Bonnieux itself.

Close by are other beautiful, perched, hilltop villages: Gordes, Roussillon, Lacoste, Oppede le vieux, Menerbes, Goult, etc. all within 15 minutes.

From Bonnieux you are by the cleft in the Luberon mountain that gives you access to the south side: more gorgeous villages like Lourmarin, Cucuron, Ansouis and Cadenet to explore, 20 minutes away, and beyond these, the fine city of Aix en Provence. The Cote d'Azur is 2 hours away.

To the west, within an hour or so are Avignon, St Remy, Mont Ventoux, Les Baux de Provence, Orange, Arles, and the Rhone wine trail.

Best find in the Luberon

My husband and I spent 3 weeks in this charming cottage. The description of the Cabanon is completely accurate. It comes equipped with all amenities needed for a comfortable stay. The location simply can't be beat. My husband needed to work several hours a day and while he worked I took walks to the neighboring village of Lacoste , which is a 45 minute walk each way. I took many less ambitious walks to and from the village of Bonnieux. One day I rented a bike and cycled from Bonnieux to Roussillon to Goult and back to Bonnieux. Bonnieux has all the shops and restaurants necessary for an interesting vacation; including a bicycle rental shop, 2 open air markets per weeks, and even a petite spa to get that necessary pedicure! Although the many surrounding villages are charming to visit for the day, Bonnieux seemed to offer more choices of restaurants and amenities. The Cabanon was well maintained and extremely clean. The pool is sparkling and I wish we could have made more use out of it than we did, but October was a bit chillier than we anticipated. Anna could not have been more accommodating and helpful. My husband and I recommend the Cabanon for a delightful stay in the Luberon .

The holiday cottage of your dreams!

We had the most wonderfull two weeks at Le Cabanon. I felt I was living in a movie or book. The cottage itself has all you want and need. It’s very clean en very private. It’s not isolated though, because it is in the big secluded garden of owner Anna. She is a lovely host and we were fortunate to meet and talk to her. Bonnieux is 5 minutes by car and has all amenitities like a bakery, small grocery store and pharmacy. Lovely villages like Bonnieux, Lacoste, Menerbes and Oppède Le View are all “down the road”. Like all the other guests before us, we know we’ll be back. Staying here was magic!

Wonderful and recommended

Wonderful rustic , charming cottage accommodation , well appointed , clean and comfortable. Loved the wildflower gardens with options of places to sit in sun or shade. Great base to explore the hillside villages with access to beautiful countryside walks and a choice of good restaurants. Anna our host was a delight to meet and available if any queries arose. Would definitely recommend this accommodation .Alice
