Le Cabanon, Bonnieux, Provence

Cottage for two with pool by beguiling Bonnieux

The house is on two levels, with bedroom on the lower level and the living room above. The pool is in the owner's garden next door.

Le Cabanon is a delightful little two-storey cottage for a couple, with wild garden and view, and a 10-minute walk to the wonderful village of Bonnieux, with its bakeries, cafes and restaurants. It has use of the owner's pool next door.

Living Room

The upper floor is living room and kitchen, with the dining table in between.

Because the house is built into the side of a hill, you enter on the upper floor into the living room/kitchen, and the bedroom and bathroom are downstairs on the ground floor.

The living room/kitchen has a sofa and TV by the fireplace - French and English-language TV stations. The sofa can also turn into a sofa-bed, not for extra guests, but in case a couple prefers one bed each.

Next to this is the dining table and then the kitchen which has a 2-ring stove, grill/microwave and under-counter fridge-freezer.

There is WiFi internet.

The TV will be wall-mounted to the right of the sofa, on the left is the fireplace.

Bedroom

On the lower level is the bedroom with a 1.5m-wide bed (5ft).

The bathroom has a shower, WC and basin.

From the bedroom the door opens to the lower garden, which is on the other side of the house from the front door and terrace (pictured below left).

If you prefer one bed each, the sofa in the living room is also a sofa-bed.

Garden

Upper level garden and west-facing terrace. Pool with Cabanon in the background and owner's house to the left.

Around the cabanon is a wooded garden on two levels with meadow-grass and olive trees. Off the living room is the west-facing terrace (below), with table and chairs, and shade overhead. Guests have use of the owner's pool next door, which measures 13 metres (42 ft) long.

The terrace outside the living room is shaded and is the place for summer meals and relaxation.

There are other outdoor tables and chairs: in the upper garden; and on the lower garden on the other side of the house, outside the bedroom. A swingchair provides a view of the village of Lacoste (below right), and you can also see as far as Mont Ventoux to the north.

Pool with sunloungers, and the view to Lacoste from the garden.

There is the option of gated parking by the house. The bi-lingual owner lives on neighbouring land so is easily available for any problems or advice.

The Location

<

Bonnieux, one of the most beautiful villages in France, and its weekly market.

The house is on the country road from Lacoste to Bonnieux, and you can walk into the centre of Bonnieux in 10 minutes. There you will find a bakery, restaurants from simple to fine dining, cafes and other amenities.

Bonnieux is stunning to look at on approaching, perched above the vineyards of the Luberon valley, but also a perfect Provencal village on the inside, with architecture and winding streets dating to the middle ages. Bonnieux has fantastic views to Lacoste to the west, Mont Ventoux to the north, and the Luberon mountain to the south.

Market day in Bonnieux is Friday morning, and there is a market in a neighbouring village every day of the week.

The location is a dream for hikers and bikers. You can set off on walks right from the doorstep, and rent bikes in Bonnieux itself.

Close by are other beautiful, perched, hilltop villages: Gordes, Roussillon, Lacoste, Oppede le vieux, Menerbes, Goult, etc. all within 15 minutes.

From Bonnieux you are by the cleft in the Luberon mountain that gives you access to the south side: more gorgeous villages like Lourmarin, Cucuron, Ansouis and Cadenet to explore, 20 minutes away, and beyond these, the fine city of Aix en Provence. The Cote d'Azur is 2 hours away.

To the west, within an hour or so are Avignon, St Remy, Mont Ventoux, Les Baux de Provence, Orange, Arles, and the Rhone wine trail.

A little gem in the Luberon

We truly enjoyed our stay at Le Cabanon in Bonnieux. It is cosy and so comfortable! We even had a litttle BBQ. We spent 5 days there and it became our home away from home. We particularly enjoyed meeting Anna who made us feel right at home. Although the weather wasn't the greatest, we got to use the beautiful pool. The Cabanon is a good 20 minute walk to Bonnieux, but a quick drive to town. Parking there wasn't a problem. We highly recommend Anna's place and can't wait to go back.

Wonderful, wonderful!

We had a fabulous week at Le Cabanon. The description of the little house was spot on and was just what we wanted - a base for some great walking and touring and close enough to the village to walk to and fro easily. (We did need a torch to get back in the evenings though!) The village itself is gorgeous with breath-taking views from the old church and the shopkeepers were friendly and helpful. Le Fournil restaurant was a particular favourite, along with the Salon de The for yummy breakfasts. There is a good tourist information office and a lovely trail through the village with little plaques pointing out interesting facts from its history. Anna, the host, was really friendly and helpful and she knows the area well so can give lots of good advice about places to go. We can't recommend Le Cabanon highly enough and have already booked to go back in the spring!

Pleasing to the senses and to the mind

We stayed at Le Cabanon for 10 nights during our first visit to France and it was lovely. We received a friendly, warm welcome and excellent service from the owner Anna, who is fluent in English and a wonderful host. We found the listing description extremely accurate in all regards. Le Cabanon is a lovingly restored and charming little shed perfect for two people - immaculately clean, well maintained, well-furnished and beautifully decorated with an eye for detail and the comfort of the guest in mind. It is located in a gorgeous and peaceful setting within easy reach of the other Luberon villages. We will happily return.
