La Cypriere, Bonnieux, Provence

Fantastic village location with views and pool

La Cypriere and its wonderful view over to Lacoste and the Marquis de Sade's castle.

A wonderfully positioned 3-bedroom house with pool right in the stunning village of Bonnieux, 1 minute's stroll from the restaurants, cafes, bakeries and shops. Almost every room and the garden have high, wide views over the vineyards of the valley to Lacoste, Mont Ventoux and the Luberon mountain.

Garden & Pool

The glory of La Cypriere is its garden and pool, which are rare for a village house. The garden faces west and is planted with the scents and colours of Provence: lavender, rosemary, thyme, cypresses and vines. It provides a delightful spot for taking in the afternoon sun, the views or a good book.

The pool is 7 x 4m (23 x 13ft) and it is fenced and gated so can be secured from toddlers. The pool is open from June 1st to September 1st. It may be possible to keep it open beyond these dates at guests' charge (50 euros per week).

The garden starts with the terrace outside the kitchen, which runs the full width of the house. Under a shading au vent is the outside dining table and grill fireplace (below). Down the steps to the pool level is the garden with another table and chairs under a pergola.

The views from the garden and the house are wonderful at all times of day, from the early morning light streaming across the valley to the sunset opposite.

Behind the church is the village of Lacoste, its most prominient feature is the half-ruined castle of the Marquis de Sade, which is lit up at night.

There is free parking on the street right by the house.

The Location

Bonnieux, one of the most beautiful villages in France, and its weekly market.

If you want to spend a week or more immersed in the life of a beautiful Provence village, the location could not be better. Within a minute's walk are the bakeries, stores, cafes and excellent restaurants of the village, ranging from simple to Michelin-starred.

Bonnieux is stunning to look at on approaching, perched above the vineyards of the Luberon valley, but also a perfect Provencal village on the inside, with architecture and winding streets dating to the middle ages. Bonnieux has fantastic views to Lacoste to the west, Mont Ventoux to the north, and the Luberon mountain to the south.

Market day in Bonnieux is Friday morning, and there is a market in a neighbouring village every day of the week.

Close by are other beautiful, perched, hilltop villages: Gordes, Roussillon, Lacoste, Oppede le vieux, Menerbes, Goult, etc. all within 15 minutes.

From Bonnieux you are by the cleft in the Luberon mountain that gives you access to the south side: more gorgeous villages like Lourmarin, Cucuron, Ansouis and Cadenet to explore, 20 minutes away, and beyond these, the fine city of Aix en Provence. The Cote d'Azur is 2 hours away.

To the west, within an hour or so are Avignon, St Remy, Mont Ventoux, Les Baux de Provence, Orange, Arles, and the Rhone wine trail.

La Cypriere

We were fortunate enough to spend three weeks in Bonnieux at La Cypriere. We pleasantly found the home to be far more equipped, clean, and spacious than noted on the website. There is a beautiful stone "cave' with a flat screen television off the kitchen that was a delightful surprise! The whole feel of the property is unique: excellent artwork hung throughout, warm and traditional French kitchen, impeccable gardens and elaborate stone walls and pathways, and a daily view of the Provence from the deck, offering incredible sunsets. The pool offers complete privacy and enough shade for the hot summer days. Staying for a longer period of time, we were very happy to find that Dagmar and the caretakers responded immediately to any questions regarding use of washing machine, pool maintenance, etc. The house is 100% ready, and has everything you need from a salad spinner to a food processor to sharp knives, towels and beautiful soaps. The location of the house in the village is perfect, a touch off of the beaten path so you feel as if you're in the country, but one minute walk to everything! The village is charming and interesting, yet not overrun with tourism like several of the nearby villages, all worth a visit. We will definitely return to the La Cypriere and recommend it 100%!

Fantastic property

Stayed in the villa for 3 weeks. The bedding was very comfortable with spacious rooms. Kitchen facilities were generally good with a warm country feel . Great views of the countryside from many windows and the terrace were fantastic, especially at sunset. Outdoor areas offered varied seating and eating opportunities. Lovely pool . Villa close to the village centre with shops and restaurants within walking distance.

Getaway for 4 Australian Ladies

We had a fabulous week in this gorgeous provincial home. Lovely decor, clean and spacious. It accommodated all our needs and was in a very convenient location with only a short walk to Restaurants and shops. A terrace with amazing views and a delightful garden to enjoy and relax in. The owner was very efficient and helpful when we were organising our stay. On arrival we were met by the friendly caretaker who was on call during our stay if we needed any assistance. We would love to return to Bonnieux and would certainly recommend la Maison Cypriere for a very comfortable stay.
