Outside

The house is in 5 acres of land, including a lavender field at the edge of the terrace, and beyond that the endless acres of the Luberon. The pool is 11.5 x 4m (38 x 13ft) and set against the face of the sheltering rock, with a wooden deck and sunloungers.

From mid-June to early August the lavender field in front of the house is in bloom.

As well as the pool there an outdoor hot tub/jacuzzi, so along with the calm of the setting, this is a very relaxing house.

The deck terrace at the front of the house with dining and relaxation spots, leading down to the pool.

There are two spots for outdoor living - the terrace and deck to the front of the house, and behind the house amid the trees is the Moroccan terrace and outdoor hot tub/jacuzzi.

Dining table and lounging area have a verdant backdrop.

On the front terrace the dining table is carved from a single slab of wood and is shaded by a wrought-iron pergola. Next to this is the sitting area with sofa, armchairs and sunloungers.

The barbecue grill by the dining table. Outside dining and steps leading to the deck at the back of the house.

By the outdoor dining table is a stone-built barbecue/grill. There is a small, shallow river 100 metres from the house which is a good picnic spot.

At the back of the house, Moroccan sitting area, with jacuzzi halfway up the rock on the left, and a separate picnic spot in the woods (right).

To the back of the house is a deck terrace with Moroccan vibe for evening drinks, and up a few steps, built into the rock is the jacuzzi (hot tub) open to the night sky.

The house is sheltered by rock and trees, and in front are lavender fields which flower from late June to early August. Access is along a country path (no potholes) with gated access, so there is secure parking and not a sound but the birds and the breeze.

The Location

Bonnieux, one of the most beautiful villages in France, and its weekly market.

The house is in peaceful countryside midway between the stunning Luberon villages of Bonnieux and Goult, 5 miles from both. Bonnieux is not only beautiful to look at on approaching, perched above the vineyards of the Luberon valley, but also a perfect Provencal village on the inside, with architecture and winding streets dating to the middle ages. The village has fantastic views to Lacoste to the west, Mont Ventoux to the north, and the Luberon mountain to the south.

Market day in Bonnieux is Friday morning, and there is a market in a neighbouring village every day of the week.

Goult is one of the best villages of the Luberon, a little-known gem of a village, with a lovely atmosphere, a good café/restaurant on the main square, and several other good restaurants, as well as a 'hidden' and beautifully preserved old neighbourhood with bakery, butcher, grocery store. The village also has public tennis courts.

Another stunning neighbouring village is Roussillon, a medieval hill-top village known and loved for its amazing palette of ochre colours. It has all the amenities you need: restaurants and cafes, grocery, bakery, butcher, doctor, pharmacy, small specialist stores, galleries and a weekly market.

Other nearby hilltop villages include MenerbesGordesLacosteOppede-le-vieux, all within 15 minutes.

You can hike from the doorstep and the excellent Veloroute paved cycle trail runs east-west along the Luberon just to the north of the house.

From this base you can explore the Luberon, its villages and markets, and close by you will find AvignonFontaine de VaucluseIsle sur la Sorgue, Les Baux de Provence, St Remy, Aix en Provence, Orange, Arles, Nimes, Marseille, the Camargue, Gorges du Verdon, to name just some of the great days out an easy drive away. The fishing village of Cassis on the Mediterranean is 90 minutes away, and the French Riviera 2-3 hours.

An oasis

We stayed for two weeks in La Petite Roque and didn't want to leave. It's a little piece of paradise in the Luberon. The house is beautiful, tasteful and comfortable - like being invited to a friend's lovely home. The grounds are fantastic - you can spend days here and not feel the need to go anywhere, with plenty of shady spots and places to explore. The location is perfect for exploring hilltop villages and towns and is really well connected. We hope to return again next year. Wonderful.

A superb location for my family's vacation.

We were six: myself, my daughter and her husband, and their three children, ages 4, 7 and 9. The home is well located and quiet (except for the cicadas during the day, which I love hearing). Having a washer/dryer on site made it easy for everyone to dress in clean clothes despite traveling light. There was more than adequate space for all of us to spread out and relax in the house, and to entertain friends on the terrace. The location is ideal for exploring the Luberon and surrounding areas. We drove to Moustiers-Ste-Marie and Arles and Aix-en-Provence on separate days, and also explored nearby villages of Roussillon, L'isle-sur-la-Sorgue, Menerbes, Bonnieux and Lacoste. I would recommend this home to anyone looking for a clean, well furnished home in a quiet location.

An idyllic spot

We had a superb week at La Petite Roque: relaxing in its total peace and tranquility, tucked away amidst oak woodland and lavender, yet within very easy reach of several beautiful villages. We loved the stylish decor, pictures and books; and the piano was a real bonus. But most of the time we enjoyed the luxurious outdoor space. We appreciated Florence (the agent) 's efficiency and helpfulness too. A perfect place to unwind!
