Amazing village rental with pool and magnificent views

The house seen from the garden. Pool with view.

A stunning house in Bonnieux, designed by an artist, where it's all about the light and the views from a dramatic position high above the Luberon valley. This is a spacious house that even has pool and garden but is 1 minute's stroll from the centre of the fantastic village of Bonnieux. The house sleeps 6 people in 3 bedrooms and there is a minimum age limit of 10 years old.

Living Rooms

The house is set over three floors, with the main living area on the middle floor. The master bedroom suite takes up the top floor, and the lower floor is the summer living room, opening onto the pool area.

The living room which opens out to the terrace through a wall of sliding windows.

The main living room is full of light thanks to the big wall of glass facing the view down the valley, and opening out to the terrace with outdoor dining.

In the living room are sofa and armchairs, and a dining table next to the kitchen. The fireplace is out of use. The house has WiFi internet.

The study with TV and writing desk on the top floor, part of the master suite.

Upstairs in the master suite is the study (above) with TV/DVD which has English-language and French channels, and a writing desk with view (one of two in the house).

The beautiful light, spacious kitchen (above) is on the middle floor next to the living room, and is equipped with oven, 4-ring stove, dishwasher, fridge, and through the door is laundry room with washer and dryer, and another fridge with freezer.

Through the glass door takes you from the kitchen to the breakfast balcony.

The kitchen has its own terrace with wonderful view, and a table and chairs, and is the ideal spot for breakfast in the morning sun (above right).

The summer room opens through a wall of sliding windows to the pool and garden.

Downstairs where the full-width sliding windows open onto the pool, is the summer living room. This is a place to relax and keep cool in the middle of the day. Also on this floor by the pool are a shower room with WC, and a summer kitchen/bar with fridge and sink.

Garden & Pool

The house is blessed with a beautiful pool and garden over different levels, all with the most wonderful view from high in Bonnieux looking down the Luberon mountain and valley.

The pool is below the terrace of the middle floor (right), and both levels have amazing views.

The terrace outside the living room offers the best of the view (above right) and has a dining table and sunloungers, as well as electric BBQ. At lunch there is shade and the most spectacular time of day is when the sun is setting straight ahead and the valley turns from golden to violet to twilight.

The pool is on the level below the terrace and measures 8m x 3m (26 x 10ft) with steps at the shallow end. There is a seating area in the shade outside the summer living room (above left).

After the pool is the lavender bed and then the 'cloister garden' (above left) with olive tree in the centre, stone floor and dry-stone walls. A half-level above this is another outside sitting area under the deep shade of the vine-clad pergola (below left).

The house is in a quiet road by the castle ramparts, and has its own garage with automated door for one car. There is also free street parking by the house.

The Location

Bonnieux, one of the most beautiful villages in France, and its weekly market.

If you want to spend a week or more immersed in the life of a beautiful Provence village, the location could not be better. Within a minute's walk are the bakeries, stores, cafes and excellent restaurants of the village, ranging from simple to Michelin-starred.

Bonnieux is stunning to look at on approaching, perched above the vineyards of the Luberon valley, but also a perfect Provencal village on the inside, with architecture and winding streets dating to the middle ages. Bonnieux has fantastic views to Lacoste to the west, Mont Ventoux to the north, and the Luberon mountain to the south.

Market day in Bonnieux is Friday morning, and there is a market in a neighbouring village every day of the week.

Close by are other beautiful, perched, hilltop villages: Gordes, Roussillon, Lacoste, Oppede le vieux, Menerbes, Goult, etc. all within 15 minutes.

From Bonnieux you are by the cleft in the Luberon mountain that gives you access to the south side: more gorgeous villages like Lourmarin, Cucuron, Ansouis and Cadenet to explore, 20 minutes away, and beyond these, the fine city of Aix en Provence. The Cote d'Azur is 2 hours away.

To the west, within an hour or so are Avignon, St Remy, Mont Ventoux, Les Baux de Provence, Orange, Arles, and the Rhone wine trail.

Exceeded our expectations in every way!

We had an amazing time in this house. I visited with my husband and two other couples, some of our best friends. You never know what you are getting when you rent a house online. So many times the actual experience does not meet the expectation. So I was guarded as the days approached. But the minute we entered this beautiful home, any fear turned to great joy! It is gorgeous! I loved the furnishings, the artwork, the flooring, rugs, abundance of books and the gourmet kitchen was stocked better than my kitchen at home, with all kinds of platters and dishes, spices, and oils and vinegars!! The appliances were first class. There was even a herb garden outside the kitchen door! The patios offered fantastic views, and we enjoyed many dinners around our dining room table. We used the market baskets daily as we walked to the village for bread and groceries. We stocked up on produce both at the market in Isle sur la Sorgue as well as the charming Friday market in Bonnieux. Our friends graciously gave us the use of the master bedroom and bath which were glorious. We loved the town of Bonnieux and had fun day trips to Arles and other neat towns. Not being European, we were unfamiliar with emptying the water from the dryer, but a conversation with the house manager quickly solved the problem. It was a bit musty smelling in the lower living room but we didn’t need to use the space as the main living room was so enjoyable. The owner of the home was delightful and helpful with all my email questions and I truly cannot wait to stay in this house again!! We all loved it!!!!

We stayed in this beautiful home for 10 days in August 2018. I say HOME because it is really not your typical holiday rental. It is like staying in someone's home. It is furnished with taste and it was actually better equipped than our own home! There were goodies in the fridge for our arrival including a most welcome chilled bottle of wine, which we really appreciated and their care taker was very helpful . The views from every room are breathtaking and we loved the fact that there are different levels, with terraces and a delightful small garden. We had breakfast on the kitchen terrace watching the sun rise, lunch and dinner on the main terrace watching the sun set down. Another huge plus point is the swimming pool - although not huge it is more than sufficient and a rare gem for a village house. I took delight in stepping out of the house each morning for the 2 minute walk to the village shops, in the evenings we just walked to the restaurants. Can't recommend it highly enough. Just want to be there again.

Fabulous in every way

As two Australian couples who love to travel to Provence most years, staying in rented homes for a week or two at a time, we found this lovely Bonnieux house ticked every box. It was even better than as described, very clean, spacious, perfectly positioned mid-village yet very quiet and private. The manager was exceptional and the house very well provisioned - with so many welcoming and appreciated items - bowls of fruit, wine and bread and an abundance of towels etc. It's furnished very stylishly and artistically and pool was small but more than adequate for the four of us, it's such a bonus to have a pool in a village house. The only tricky part was manoeuvring our car into and out of the car park into the tiny, windy street. Bonnieux deserves its reputation as one of the Luberon's most beautiful villages, with stunning views over the valley and is so easily accessible to all the other villages and larger towns (Avignon, Aix-en-Provence). We're returning to Provence in 2019 and our first choice would be this house in this village.
