The Location

Cabrieres d'Avignon has all the amenities of a small Provencal village, without the crowds.

The house is in quiet countryside 1 mile from the village of Coustellet, with its shops, restaurants, and famous Sunday morning farmers' market. 1.5 miles away is the village of Cabrieres d'Avignon, a less-known village in the beautiful Luberon region. The honey-coloured centre of the village is self-sufficient with a small grocery store, a really good baker, a butcher, and a decent restaurant.

Five minutes away is the better known village of Gordes, and it is a short drive to the other beautiful hill-top villages of the Luberon: Menerbes, Bonnieux, Lacoste, Roussillon, Oppede-le-vieux, etc.

Isle sur la Sorgue, the antiques capital of France is close by, as is the stunning Fontaine de Vaucluse, where the Sorgue emerges from the ground.

This is an ideal base for exploring further afield: Avignon, Arles, St Remy, Aix, Nimes, Pont du Gard, Gorges du Verdon, Les Baux de Provence, Marseille, the Camargue and the Cote d'Azur are all within easy reach.

Village markets take place in a different village each day of the week.

Memorable Family Vacation

Our family spent 2 weeks at La Caumino and our experience in this beautifully renovated 19th century stone house will always be a memorable family vacation. The owners have spent much time and insight into making this house comfortable with quality furnishings. The home is well equipped for dining with modern appliances and bbq equipment. The outdoor patio is perfect for relaxing over breakfast, having an aperitif, or al fresco dining. The pool is great for relaxing with a lovely view of the Luberon. The garden is beautiful. The beds were very comfortable with high quality linens and there were 3 and a half baths. The excellent laundry facilities were appreciated. The first week we had our grandchildren and they enjoyed an Easter egg hunt in the garden area, playing frozen tag, and loup. One can also take walks from the house. There is a park in nearby Cabrieres d'Avignon that is excellent for children and picnics. Location of this home is one of the reasons we chose it. The house is easily accessible coming from the north on the A-7 and driving from the Marseilles airport. It is also close to lovely villages like L'Isle sur la Sorgues, Gordes, Bonnieux, and Menerbes. We also visited Saignon (near Apt) and found the village of Caseneuve where we had a wonderful dinner at the Sanglier Paresseux. Lourmarin, Lacoste, and Ansouis are within 30 minute driving distance. A trip to the Pont du Gard, Vaison la Romain Tues market, Gigondas, Rasteau are all about 55 min. There is an excellent boucherie, boulangerie, and a convenient Super U in Coustellet...3 minutes. The Sunday market in L'Isle Sur la Sorgues is a must but the Sunday market in Coustellet, though smaller, has everything you need. Also, there is a lavender museum in Coustellet worth a visit if you like lavender and are interested in the distilling process. We shopped at the lavender boutique for soaps, essential oils, creams, and perfume. La Caumino is spacious, has a great tv dvd system. The satellite includes English stations. The wifi works everywhere- upstairs, on the patio, by the pool. Photos can be downloaded and sent off to relatives and friends. La Caumino was a superb holiday rental and we would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a vacation home in beautiful Provence

Highly recommended location in Provence

We had two wonderful weeks in La Caumino. The house, garden, terrace, and pool area are wonderful (great view on Luberon). Everything is refurnished very tastful. Most famous villages like Gordes and Roussillon etc. can be reached within short time (max. 15 min.). And in Coustellet (2 min. by car) a market takes place two times a week and there are all kind of shops (supermarket, Bio-supermarket, bakery, fishmonger, and delicatessen). We highly recommend La Caumino for a lovely stay in Provence.
