Immaculate Provence rental house for 8 people, next to a village in the heart of the Luberon

 

Les Chenes Verts, 1km from the amenities of Cabrieres d'Avignon in the heart of the Luberon, is an ideal home for vacation rentals. It sleeps 8, with 4 bedrooms and bathrooms, and is newly restored and completed for 2012.

Living Rooms

 

The superb kitchen is beautifully equipped and gleaming new.

Like the rest of the house, the new kitchen is immaculate and carefully thought out, as the owner has rented many homes in Provence, and can also draw on a professional background as an interior designer. There are plentiful work tops, a big American fridge-freezer, dishwasher, and a double size cooker with 6 gas burners and two ovens. Also in the kitchen, as well as top quality cooking materials, an iPod dock, because the kitchen is the heart of the home. The laundry room is separate, and has washing machine and dryer, as well as a second dishwasher.

 

Leading off the kitchen is the dining room for 10. The kitchen door pictured above leads to the outside dining table.

The kitchen has a breakfast bar and next door is the dining room for 10 people, with french doors onto the garden.

Next to the dining room is the very comfortable living room with stone fireplace, and large TV/DVD with the UK TV stations (Freeview) and CNN. In a separate den/study is another TV with French stations.



Bedrooms

There are 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms, three upstairs and one downstairs. The three upstairs bedrooms are air conditioned.

Bedroom 1 is downstairs, with double bed and en suite bathroom.

Bedroom 1, downstairs has a 1.6m wide double (5ft 3"), which opens onto the terrace at the front of the house. The en suite bathroom has shower, basin and WC.

Upstairs, bedroom 2 (above) is at the end of a corridor which can be closed off with a door to allow privacy from the other bedrooms. It has two singles and a bathroom with shower, basin and WC (below left).

Bedroom 3 (above) is another twin room with two single beds, and its bathroom (above right) has shower, basin and WC.

The spacious master bedroom (above) has a 1.8m-wide double (6ft) and a big, bright bathroom with shower, bath-tub, double basins and WC. All bedrooms have views to the south.



Garden & Pool

To the front of the house is a terrace with dining table under the shade of the wrought-iron pergola. Below the terrace the lawn leads to the pool and there is another seating area under the oak tree.

 

Under the pergola of the terrace, and outside the kitchen, is the summer dining table.

The dining table is outside the kitchen and there is also a barbecue on hand.

By the pool is comfortable seating and sun-lounging, and pool towels are provided.

The pool is 10m x 5m, with Roman steps at the shallow end, and an enticing marine tint to the water. For toddler security, the pool is secured with an electronic rolling cover.

 

It wouldn't be Provence without it.

Between terrace and lawn is a gravelled area with shaded seating, which is where those mighty boules battles take place over an aperitif.

The front of the house is south facing, and to the back of the house there is ample, secure parking space and a gated entrance.



The Location

Cabrieres d'Avignon has all the amenities of a small Provencal village, without the crowds.

The house is 1km from Cabrieres d'Avignon, a less-known village in the beautiful Luberon region. The honey-coloured centre of the village is self-sufficient with a small grocery store, a really good baker, a butcher, and a restaurant. Also very close is Coustellet with its shops, restaurants, and famous Sunday morning farmers' market.

Five minutes away is the well-known village of Gordes, and it is a short drive to the other beautiful hill-top villages of the Luberon: Menerbes, Bonnieux, Lacoste, Roussillon, Oppede-le-vieux, etc.

Isle sur la Sorgue, the antiques capital of France is close by, as is the stunning Fontaine de Vaucluse, where the Sorgue emerges from the ground.

This is an ideal base for exploring further afield: Avignon, Arles, St Remy, Aix-en-Provence, Nimes, Pont du Gard, Gorges du Verdon, Les Baux, Marseille, the Camargue and the Cote d'Azur are all within easy reach.

There are hikes right from the door of the house exploring the surrounding countryside, or you can go by mountain bike. Village markets take place in a different village each day of the week.

Scenes from the nearby Sunday farmer's market in Coustellet, which runs April to December.

Absolutely Perfect!

When we started looking for a property to rent for the month of September to celebrate my husband's 60th birthday, we had a list of criteria. We didn't expect to find a place that met every item on the list but Les Chenes Verts turned out to be the perfect place that satisfied every requirement. Here's the list: 1. Must have 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms (to sleep 8 people) 2. Must have a swimming pool 3. Must be in a quiet location 4. Must have modern amenities 5. Must be within walking distance of a bakery and restaurants 6. Must be in an area with good road cycling and walking 7. Must be within driving distance of interesting historical sites, pretty villages and good restaurants 8. Must be within driving distance of a golf course 9. Must be available for the month of September Les Chenes Verts had all of these and so much more. It is a gorgeous property, beautifully decorated with a wonderful garden. We really appreciated the welcome basket full of goodies to get us started and the weekly cleaning and linen change. We loved the 5 minute walk to the bakery for fresh bread and goodies most mornings and enjoyed both of the restaurants in Cabrieres d'Avignon. Le Vieux Bistrot was a bit more formal with outstanding food, Le Chauve Sourit was welcoming, friendly had great food and some incredible live music. Cabrieres d'Avignon was the perfect base for some excellent road cycling. We recommend renting from bcyclet.com. Good quality bikes, excellent service and they delivered the bikes to the door. There is a good grocery store a short drive away in Coustellet and markets every day of the week in the surrounding villages. We highly recommend Les Chenes Verts. Thanks very much to the Mack family for sharing their beautiful home with us and our friends. It was the perfect place for a celebration.

Return to Provence

This was our 2nd visit to the wonderful Les Chênes Verts. We first spent a magical week in late August 2016 and vowed to return! This time we came slightly earlier in the month just at the end of the massive heat wave - 39 degrees on our 1st day. (This cooled down and we had far more settled sunny weather thereafter). It is hard to describe how 'at home' this house immediately makes you feel - but I will describe our visit in the hope of conveying our delight! It is immaculately furnished, with great taste, and contains absolutely everything needed to make a holiday perfect. Our age range was from mid sixties down to late teenagers and every single one of the six of us agreed that this was one of the best holidays of our lives. Every morning, to be able to walk to the bakery to collect fresh, warm bread and pastries was a great way to start the day. This would be followed by a visit to one or more of the fabulous characterful villages which are dotted around the Luberon - we also visited a favourite of ours - L'isle sur La Sourgue with its quaint winding streets, its small 'canals' with picturesque bridges and myriad of places to eat or just have a drink! Also its wonderful antiques street market. Lacoste was also a winner - its castle, home to the Marquis de Sade, beautifully perched on the hillside. We went on a coach trip to Aix en Provence - which was a great day out too - I recommend the road train tour around Aix which shows you all the must see sights if you are limited on time. We had a fantastic wine tasting tour around the Vacqueras region which was most enjoyable. We would often return in the late afternoon - mostly via the really convenient Super U supermarket in nearby Coustellet to get supplies, and head straight into the pool, for a relaxing, refreshing wind and cool down. After cooking an evening meal together - sometimes eaten outside on the terrace; sometimes by candlelight in the magnificent dining room; adjourning to play a competitive games of boules/petanque on the lower terrace or badminton on the lawn. Still later on a game of chess or cards in the comfy sitting room - and then off to bed in the beautiful bedrooms. Also sometimes sitting out in the starlight with a glass of wine, just watching the amazing scenery - also to be able to throe open the shutters in the morning and watch the sun rise over the massif - balm to the soul! Our dealings with the owners and their representatives at the house have been swift, cordial, and very informative. They are perfect hosts and I would recommend them to anyone - in fact we love the house so much we are going back for 2 weeks in 2018!

A dream home in Provence

We arrived at Les Chenes Verts on a wet and windy Saturday in June and were warmly greeted by Meggie who explained that this was slightly unusual for that time of the year and promised us blue skies and sunshine for the next 2 weeks-she did not disappoint! As soon as we walked into the house, we fell in love! Not only is it a beautifully and tastefully restored house, its real beauty is in its warmth and soul! It is understated and elegant, yet comfortable and inviting!! It flows happily from room to room and the garden, terrace and pool area is equally charming! The house was spotlessly clean, and even though we had a thorough introduction from Meggie, everything was easy to find, use etc...... just what you want from a 'holiday rental'. Our two weeks were spent visiting the markets, villages and still our firm favourite villages are Menerbes, Goult and Lourmarin but we also discovered Cucuron (watch A Good Year on DVD-we did three times!) which is absolutely charming! Our favourite restaurants are the Veranda and Bistro 5 in Menerbes and L'auberge des Carrieres in Les Taillades-fabulous food and lovely, friendly staff! We also enjoyed a lovely salad and glass of wine at Sous La Robe in Isle sur la Sorgue! We will always cherish our early evening boules contests under the trees and then watching the sun go down behind the hills with a glass of wine-magical! Thank you Belinda for letting us enjoy your beautiful home-we will definitely return!

Included in the rental rates: bedlinen, towels, utilities, WiFi internet, and after-stay clean.

To secure a booking you would send a 25% deposit, with the balance payable up to 8 weeks before your stay.

There is a refundable security deposit of 1000 euros against any breakages or damage.
 Rental periods run from Saturday 5pm to Saturday 10am. For stays over a week there is a change of bedlinen once a week.

Cancellation policy: if we can find another booking for your dates we will return any money sent (minus bank charges).

The house is for a maximum of 8 people. We regret that pets and smoking are not allowed in the house
