The house has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms, with one of the bedrooms in the poolhouse. There are 4 doubles and one twin room. Three of the bedrooms are downstairs. There are also two travel cots for under-3s.

The master bedroom (above) on the ground floor opens onto the front terrace. It has a 1.4m-wide double bed, TV/DVD and en suite bathroom with shower (with bench), basin and WC.

Upstairs above the master bedroom is bedroom 2 (above), a large room with 1.6m-wide double bed. Its bathroom is in the same space as the bedroom, with bath, WC and basin.

Bedroom 3 on the ground floor (above) opens onto the front terrace, and has a 1.4m double bed and bathroom with bath, basin and separate WC.

Bedroom 4 on the ground floor (left) has two single beds and opens onto the front terrace. Its bathroom has shower, basin and WC.

The fifth bedroom (below right) is the upstairs floor of the pool house (below left), which is separate from the main house, 15 metres away. It has a 1.4m double bed and a pedestal bath in the bedroom. The WC is downstairs. The poolhouse also has a kitchen, allowing for some independence from the main house.

The poolhouse has the 5th bedroom upstairs, with a pedestal bath and handheld shower.

The poolhouse has no heating so the 5th bedroom cannot be used from October to April, when the capacity of the house drops to 8 people.

Garden & Pool

The house is set in 5 acres of land on the heights of Gordes with a magnificent view over the valley and Luberon mountain, including the perched villages of Gordes, Bonnieux and St Saturnin.

Lunch in the shade of the poolhouse terrace. The pool has a very shallow 'beach' for kids to play in.

The pool is 14m x 6m (46 x 20 ft), with steps, and is fenced and gated for children's security. The pool uses salt chlorination which is kinder on the skin and eyes. It has a great feature for young children - the first two metres of the shallow end has a raised 'beach' (above right) which is very shallow so non-swimmers can splash about without being out of their depth. Then there are steps down to the rest of the pool. The pool is open from May 1st to September 30th.

The poolhouse has a large shaded area with dining table (below right), and a summer kitchen and electric barbecue to prepare food by the pool.

The land is on different levels with some lawn, cherry orchard and olive grove.

On the level above the pool is a cherry orchard, with wonderful cherries to pick in May.

The outside space is a natural playground for children to roam, and there is also a trampoline in the garden.

Table with wonderful view at front of house. Shaded table by kitchen.

At the front of the house is a terrace with table and specacular view (above left), as well as hundred-year-old olive trees on the lawn (below left).

There is plenty of parking at the house and gated entrance. The setting is quiet and peaceful, but only 5 minutes walk to all the amenities of Gordes (below right).

The Location

Gordes is one of the most beautiful villages in France.

Terraube is just 600 metres from the stunning village of Gordes, which is the biggest of the Luberon hill-top villages, with plenty of restaurants, cafes, shops and cultural events, so it is an ideal base from which to explore the Luberon and Provence.

The Luberon is known for the beauty of its perched villages, in addition to Gordes, close by are Menerbes, Bonnieux, Lacoste, Oppede-le-vieux, Roussillon and many others. Each is a short drive away.

You'll find a market every day at a different village, including the one in Gordes on Tuesday mornings.

Away from the Luberon, the rest of Provence is at most a day-trip away: the cities of Avignon, Aix, Arles, Nimes, Marseille; the natural wonders of the Les Baux de Provence, Gorges du Verdon, the Alps and the Rhone wine trail; the French Riviera (Cote d'Azur) from Monte Carlo to St Tropez. Even Italy and Spain are in striking distance.

1 Month in Late Summer 2020

With international travel slowed by quarantines and restrictions, we stayed as a small family with a toddler at this house for almost 5 weeks. We were intermittently visited by our few friends in Europe who were able to visit without restrictions. It was a perfect set up for us to be based as a family. Lots of space, gardens, a great pool, and a very well equipped kitchen. When our friends visited they also had their own space and didn't need to feel crowded out. We liked that we could walk to the bakery and small shops in Gordes and that nearby are huge shops and very good butchers and farmers markets. We had a very jolly time, loved the area, and will remember fondly the Summer in 2020 that we spent part working, part holidaying, at Terraube. The house has been in the same ownership for a long time which means that over time it has accumulated everything it needs to keep guests happy. This is most apparent when it comes to finding somewhere to sit and read, or when cooking in the kitchen. It also means that the gardens and land are mature, charming and beautiful.

Teraube review

Our group, which consisted of 9 people (adults and children), stayed at Terraube from July 27 to August 3, 2019. We had a wonderful stay and would gladly return. The location is excellent. You’re within 15 minutes (fairly steep, uphill walk alongside moderately busy road) distance of the town of Gordes, which has several bakeries, cafes, restaurants, a small supermarket, pharmacy etc which will cover most of your needs. There is a larger supermarket (Super U) approximately 15 minutes drive from the house. From the house you can easily explore nearby Luberon villages such as Roussillon, Bonnieux, Lourmarin, L’isle sur la Sorgue etc. All of these villages have outdoor markets on a rotating basis where you can purchase the excellent regional food and drink. There’s also a protected bike path largely free of automobile traffic, which you can reach in about 15 minutes by car and there are multiple bike shops that do rentals (best to book in advance in summer). There’s even a vineyard (Domaine Chapelle Saint Heyries) within 5 minute walk of Terraube where you can taste the local wine which is grown on the nearby hills. The house itself is wonderful, inside and out. Inside, the bedrooms and baths were well-appointed and there’s a large kitchen with a table in case you prefer to eat inside, as well as a living room with a fire place (unnecessary in July). There’s a long hallway to one side of the house with the largest bookcase I’ve ever seen in a rental property, filled with books on every topic. Though it can get hot at daytime during the summer in the region, the house is built in the local fashion so that by the evening the rooms cool off and we only occasionally used the fans that were available in each room. Outside the property is large with plenty of space for children to play, and because it has many areas and levels, a large group can easily find space to relax in different locations without feeling cramped. The views from the terrace of the region are spectacular, and we found ourselves having all our meals outside to enjoy the views. There’s a very nice private pool, which is perfect for swimmers of all levels, with plenty of deck chairs for relaxation, and a pool house with its own small kitchen and table and chairs and a bedroom as well. Our favorite way to end the day was to lie on the chairs next to the pool as it grew dark and scour the amazing night sky for shooting stars. We loved our stay. In fact, the selfish side of me hesitates to post about the property for fear it will become too popular and unavailable in the future. I would say if you’re the type of person looking for a busy nightlife, and a state-of-the-art, modern rental house, this is not for you. While Gordes is beautiful and gets its share of tourists, it’s a quieter, smaller place than some of the villages nearby. The house is a classic French country house with lots of character and charm. This is the place to go if you want to relax and to spend long hours enjoying the company of friends and family. It seems perfect for families with children who like to swim and be outside, for adults who want to spend long meals outside or relaxing in a hammock with a book, or all ages!

Well we are so sad to be leaving the house tomorrow - we have had the most joyous family holiday. We love the elegant simplicity of the house - it feels like a very happy place. I wish my French was better to enjoy some of the books!! Outside, nature has been very entertaining. Sadly too late for cherries but the lime trees have flowered and we have had a fascinating succession of bees followed by clouds of white butterflies . Then came the jays chasing the butterflies! Enchanting. Thank you for sharing your wonderful property with us. We hope to return next year.
