The heated pool measures 14m x 4m (46 x 13ft), and has an infinity edge at one end for the view. For security there is an electronic sliding cover. Around the pool are decking and sunloungers with parasols.

To overcome the problem of rosé wine losing its chill in the summer the outdoor dining table has a built-in cooling system for wine bottles, with a refrigerated water bath in the middle of the table.

The house is actually attached to the neighbouring one, but you would not know it when you are in residence as the houses do not face each other.

There is plenty of secure, gated parking within the grounds.

The Location

Gordes is one of the most beautiful villages in France.

The house is in the heart of the Luberon region of Provence, in rich countryside surrounded by stunning perched villages. Roughly equidistant at 5 minutes drive are the villages of Gordes, Goult, Menerbes and Oppede-le-vieux. Gordes has a great choice of restaurants, specialist shops, cultural events, and is alive all year round. It has the best amenities of any Luberon village. This location allows you to be by the village but in a calm setting.

The Luberon is known for the beauty of its perched villages, and also close by are Bonnieux, LacosteRoussillon, Goult and the famed towns of Isle sur la Sorgue and Fontaine de Vaucluse.

You'll find a market every day at a different village, including the colourful Gordes market on Tuesday mornings.

Away from the Luberon, the rest of Provence is at most a day-trip away: the cities of Avignon, Aix, Arles, Nimes, Marseille are about an hour's drive or less; the natural wonders of the Les Baux de Provence, Gorges du Verdon, the Alps and the Rhone wine trail; the French Riviera (Cote d'Azur) from Monte Carlo to St Tropez. Even Italy and Spain are in striking distance.

Luxury in The Luberon

After undertaking extensive research of the villas available in the Luberon region before deciding to book Le Grand Blaise, I was convinced this was exactly what 2 families from Australia were looking for. We were not disappointed, and in fact, many of the facilities on offer at the property were better than we anticipated. All rooms had comfortable beds, spacious and well equipped bathrooms, the wardrobes were stocked with sufficient hangers (not to be taken for granted), and the 2 master bedrooms had their own televisions. The living quarters (there were 3 living rooms) were extremely comfortable and equipped with the mod cons we have all grown accustom to at home such as Sky TV and Netflix. The kitchen was a foodies delight and we enjoyed preparing our meals together in both the main kitchen and the pool house. Coffee machines, 3 dishwashers in total, a walk-in cool room to name a few of the luxuries available at Le Grand Blaise. The Pool House was a great escape for the teenagers, providing separation from the grown ups, and the entertaining area overlooking the pool hosted nightly drinks and on occasion, local Chefs who prepared the entire meal in the kitchen at Le Grand Blaise. The pool was a hub for our families given the temperature averaged in the mid thirties, and the property owner ensured it was always in pristine condition. We also appreciated the additional facilities such a bikes upon request and the option of engaging mid-week cleaning. Location wise, Le Grand Blaise was close to several tourist towns such as Goult, Gordes and Joucas, whilst Coustellet (5 min drive) was well equipped with supermarkets and organic food stores. The views from the alfresco were superb and made for a picturesque setting when enjoying evening drinks and dinner. Upon departure we all agreed Le Grand Blaise set the bar high for future visits, and we would consider staying for 2 weeks next time as 7 nights did not seem long enough.
