Maison Les Martins, Gordes, Provence

Interior designed Provence living for two

A designer 1-bedroom house in a small hamlet near Gordes, dating back to 1850 and beautifully decorated in a blend of contemporary and Provencal.

Living Rooms

Dining room with fireplace built into the wall.

On the ground floor are the living room, dining room and kitchen. With its fireplace and armchairs the dining room acts as a second living room in the winter. The ceiling retains its original beams, while the floor is polished cement.

From dining room through to living room. Well-equipped kitchen.

The kitchen is fully equipped for people who love to cook, with a large fridge-freezer, dishwasher, large oven, 5-ring stove, washing machine, Nespresso, and microwave. Laundry with washer and dryer in separate building.

Living room with DVD video projector.

Like the dining room the living room faces south and is a light and very elegant room, but also very comfortable. A video projector plays DVDs onto the wall opposite the bookcase. There is no TV but the house has WiFi internet throughout.

Bedroom

Upstairs are the bedroom and en suite bathroom, both facing south over the courtyard garden, and with the same 'footprint' as the living and dining rooms below.

The spacious bedroom combines old and new - new bed, old decor. The bed is 1.6m (5.25ft) wide.

The bathroom is down and up three steps, and has a walk-in shower, pedestal bath, double basins and WC.

Garden

At the front of the house is an outdoor dining table and deckchairs. There are two other small rental units on the same property, and these have their own private outdoor spaces.

The hamlet is very quiet and peaceful, and there is off-street parking right outside the house.

The Location

Gordes is one of the most beautiful villages in France.

Les Martins is in a quiet country hamlet 4 miles from the stunning village of Gordes, which is the biggest of the Luberon hill-top villages, with plenty of restaurants, cafes, shops and cultural events, so it is an ideal base from which to explore the Luberon and Provence.

The Luberon is known for the beauty of its perched villages, in addition to Gordes, close by are Menerbes, Bonnieux, Lacoste, Oppede-le-vieux, Roussillon, Goult and many others. Each is a short drive away.

You'll find a market every day at a different village, including the one in Gordes on Tuesday mornings.

Away from the Luberon, the rest of Provence is at most a day-trip away: the cities of Avignon, Aix, Arles, Nimes, Marseille; the natural wonders of the Les Baux de Provence, Gorges du Verdon, the Alps and the Rhone wine trail; the French Riviera (Cote d'Azur) from Monte Carlo to St Tropez. Even Italy and Spain are in striking distance.

Villa les Martins

Beautiful property with outstanding attention to detail. Great to escape the hot summer and sit in the coolness of exceptional decor. Kitchen and bathroom luxurious. Edvard met us and introduced us to this wonderful residence. Details of the area were provided and our exploring was very much taken from his advice.
