The Location

Gordes, 4 miles away, is one of the most beautiful villages in France.

The house is in quiet and beautiful countryside, right in the Golden Triangle of the Luberon, with the closest villages Gordes, 4 miles away, and Goult, 2.5miles away.

Around the house you will find cherry trees where you can eat your fill in May and June, and a total calm broken only by birdsong and the choir of cicadas. You can wonder the hilltop behind the house and discover stone structures of antiquity - dolmen, borie, menhir, a Roman path - and get to the village of Gordes across country in 45 minutes.

Gordes and Goult are two of the most striking villages of Provence. Gordes is the most majestic of the Luberon hill-top villages, with plenty of restaurants, cafes, shops and cultural events, while Goult is a relatively unknown treasure, with good eateries and a beautifully preserved old neighbourhood with bakery, butcher, grocery store.

Close by are all the other notable hill-top villages like Menerbes, Bonnieux, Lacoste, Goult, Oppede le vieux, and Roussillon. Each is 10-15 minutes away, and Lourmarin is 30 minutes.

Fontaine de Vaucluse and the antiques capital of Isle-sur-la-Sorgue are 15 minutes away, the medieval city of Avignon is 40 minutes, and within an hour or so are Aix-en-Provence, St Remy, Arles, Mont Ventoux, Les Baux de Provence, Orange, and the start of the Rhone wine trail.

You'll find a market every day at a different village, including the one in Gordes on Tuesday mornings.

The perfect antidote to city life!

What a perfect week we had in Writer's House! From the minute we arrived at Writer's House Vincent and Jacques made us feel welcome and relaxed and they were the perfect hosts. We booked the house at the last minute after my husband had been working in Grenoble and Writer's House was just what we needed after the buzz of city life. It didn't take us long to relax and feel at home. When we arrived Jacques very kindly took us out in his car to show us the lie of the land and where to shop etc. There are so many villages round about to explore including Menerbes and Gordes and Bonnieux but our favourite was Goult because it was more peaceful and tranquil than the more well known Luberon villages. For wine lovers we can highly recommend Cave de Lumieres which is very close by and if you are going to L'Isle Sur La Sorgue we can recommend Le Jardin du Quai for lunch. One of the most amazing things about the position of the house is its proximity to lovely walks on ancient tracks. We walked most days with Vincent's beautiful and well behaved dogs and one day Vincent took us on a special walk with amazing views of Gordes. We loved it so much that we didn't want to leave and we would highly recommend it as a peaceful retreat. Thank you to Vincent and Jacques for being the perfect hosts and for sharing such a beautiful environment with us. See you in September. Merci beaucoup. Rosy and Roger

Quiet escape

We absolutely loved our five night stay at the Writer's Cottage near Gordes. It was a beautiful, peaceful and well appointed cottage from which we explored the surrounding towns. We came to southern France after our son's wedding in Italy and it was a wonderful way to unwind. Vincent was a gracious host who had us over for a drink one night and nothing was too much trouble. The two well behaved pet dogs in the yard were a hit with us as we are dog lovers. The cottage was very clean and it was great to have use of our own washing machine and tumble dryer. A lovely spot out the back of the cottage for evening drinks. Comfortable couches and a dark bedroom for those morning sleep ins! We would love to re visit this property in the future and can highly recommend it.

My Stay in Provence

Vincent and Jacques were friendly and helpful hosts. The writer's house was located in a quiet area close to the hilltop village of Gordes and other scenic towns and sites. Even though some of the houses in the area were new, they were all constructed of stone, so it was hard to tell which ones were old and which ones were modern. This was the most beautiful part of France we have ever visited, and we hope to return.
