Exceptional, big Provence rental home near Gordes for up to 20 people, with pool and tennis

 

Fontblanche is a fantastic, big Provence rental house 2km from the outstanding village of Gordes, with 10 bedrooms for up to 20 people. The layout allows independence for different parts of a family or groups of friends, while being an ideal setting for a communal get-together. Fontblanche has all the charm of an old Provence farmhouse, with pool, tennis and great views.

Living Rooms

 

The main living room with wide-screen TV, DVDs and English-language channels.

The main living room (above) has a home entertainment system with big screen TV, DVD library and English-language stations.

 

The beautiful dining room - the kitchen is through the door to the right on the picture at right. The terrace is at far left in the left picture.

The dining room (above), with its impressive stone fireplace, is the crossroads of the main house, leading on to the kitchen, main living room and bedrooms.

 

The kitchen is very well equipped and is the focal point of the house, being between the living spaces and the garden and pool.

In the kitchen, everything you need to cook for a large gathering - double oven and grange cooker with 6 gas burners, American fridge-freezer, dishwasher, microwave, and coffee machines. Through the kitchen is the loggia and steps down to the big outside dining table and pool area.

 

The balcony outside the kitchen offers a dominant view of the valley.

Outside the kitchen on the loggia is seating for an aperitif with far-reaching country views towards Joucas, Roussillon and the Luberon mountain.

Bedrooms

There are 10 bedrooms and 9 bathrooms. A couple of the bedrooms have the flexibility of an extra bed if needed for a child. And an annex house 30 metres from the main house provides 3 of the bedrooms, and independence if needed. The maximum is 20 people.

The sumptuous master bedroom downstairs has a 1.8m-wide bed (6ft), opening onto a terrace (below) with garden furniture and view. Its bathroom has walk-in shower, basin and separate WC.

 

The top terrace which can be for the master bedroom only, or for the whole house, as it has two access points.

Bedroom 2 is upstairs, above the master bedroom, and has the most extraordinary wooden beams that remind you of how much history this house has. It has a double bed with the possibility of an extra single. Its bathroom is down the stairs and has bath-tub, walk-in shower, double basins and separate WC.

Off the inner courtyard are three bedrooms:

Bedroom 4 (left), up some steps, is a twin room with two single beds, best suited to children, with a hand-basin and WC.

Bedroom 5 (below), is a kids' bunk room with en suite bathroom, with walk-in shower, basin and WC.

Adjoining the main part of the house is a part (pictured below) with three bedrooms which can be made somewhat independent by shutting the door between the two parts, or left open as one. This second part has its own sitting room, small kitchen and terrace.

 

Bedroom 6 has a double bed and a single, and a lovely bathroom separated from the bedroom by a bookcase (below left).

 

The three bedrooms in this part of Fontblanche are:

Bedroom 6 (above and left), upstairs, with double bed and option of an additional single, has a beautiful claw-foot bath with overhead shower, and double basin.

Bedroom 7 (below left), upstairs, is a double and has en suite bathroom with bath-tub and overhead shower, basin and WC.

Bedroom 8 (below right) downstairs is a twin room, with en suite shower room with WC and basin.

There is a lovely annex house (below) - La Bergerie - 30 metres from the main house, and this provides ideal accommodation for teenagers perhaps, or a family group that wants a little independence. The house sleeps 6 and has a bright open space with living room and kitchen.

La Bergerie is equipped as a self-contained house, so there is TV, internet, cooking/dining equipment and outside space.

La Bergerie (the annex house) has two double bedrooms (above and below) each with its en suite bathroom with bath-tub, hand-held shower, basin and separate WCs.

Between the two bedrooms are twin beds for children (left), whose porthole windows frame a view of the hill-top village of Gordes.

Garden & Pool

The Fontblanche estate covers a plateau of 10 acres and includes a small vineyard, lavender field, pool and artificial grass tennis court. The property looks down to the east over fields of wheat, fruit trees, and the vineyards that dot the Luberon valley, as well as the hill-top villages of Gordes, Joucas and Roussillon.

 

Below the main house is the swimming pool, outdoor grill, pool kitchen and two shaded eating areas.

You’ll discover all the plants of the region in the garden: Provencal herbs, rosemary, thyme, sage, mint, lavender, scenting the air and there to be used for whatever you’re inspired to cook.

 

Top terrace accessed from the dining room or the master bedroom.

Up top, the terrace that comes off the master bedroom can also be accessed from the dining room, so it can be a communal space too. This is the perfect spot for rounding off the day with a glass in hand.

As the property is on a plateau there are views over the surrounding countryside of vineyards, wheat fields and orchards, to the perched village of Gordes 1km away and further off, Joucas and Roussillon.

The tennis court is set away to the side of the house, and is laid to artificial grass, which is the best surface for ageing knees and joints.

There is plenty of parking and the entrance is gated, followed by a tree-lined drive to the house, so there is no road noise from what is in any case a very quiet country road.

The property has a delightful English-speaking caretaker who is on hand for any problems that may arise during a rental.



The Location

Fontblanche is 2km from the stunning village of Gordes, which is the biggest of the Luberon hill-top villages, with plenty of restaurants, cafes, shops and cultural events, so it is an ideal base from which to explore the Luberon and Provence.

The Luberon is known for the beauty of its perched villages, in addition to Gordes, close by are Menerbes, Bonnieux, Lacoste, Oppede-le-vieux, Roussillon and many others. Each is a short drive away.

You'll find a market every day at a different village, including the one in Gordes on Tuesday mornings.

Away from the Luberon, the rest of Provence is at most a day-trip away: the cities of Avignon, Aix, Arles, Nimes, Marseille; the natural wonders of the Gorges du Verdon, the Alps and the Rhone wine trail; the French Riviera (Cote d'Azur) from Monte Carlo to St Tropez. Even Italy and Spain are in striking distance.

Amazing Time!

The property was better than we expected it to be ! A very unique layout in multiple buildings, so there is plenty of room to have your own space. We were there for 10 days with a great group of friends who love to cook and entertain. We utilized all the dining area options and we were pleased the kitchen was so well stocked. 10 days was actually not enough time to see all the sights in the area and utilize the house, so we're making plans for a return trip! This place is amazing!

Dream come true

There were 16 of us all ages arriving from Wisconsin and Minnesota...none of us knew what to expect only hoped that our stay could be half as good as other reviews! We played tennis--even at night, rode bikes through the countryside of lavender, poppies and rolled bales of hay. Ate on patios, cooked fabulous meals,went to markets, sang, laughed, enjoyed all kinds of beverages, and played Marco Polo in the refreshing pool. Our welcome by Herve was delightful and he was always available to assist in some minor problems. It was perfect!!!! Thank you

Weekly Rates


May - September9000 euros


Included in the rental rates: bedlinen, towels, utilities, 2 x 3 hours of cleaning per week, satellite TV, WiFi internet, pool and garden maintenance, and after-stay clean. For stays of 2 weeks or more there is a weekly change of bedding and towels.

Rental periods run from Saturday 5pm to Saturday 10am.

There is a refundable security deposit of 1000 euros against any breakages or damage.
 To secure a booking you would send a 25% deposit, with the balance payable up to 8 weeks before your stay.

Cancellation policy: if we can find another booking for your dates we will return any money sent (minus bank charges).

The house is for a maximum of 20 people. We regret that smoking is not allowed in the house.
