Stunning 2-bedroom designer property near Gordes

The Art House is a very spacious 2-bedroom contemporary home in a wonderful setting close to the idyllic village of Gordes.

Living Rooms

The vast living room is flooded with light.

At the centre of the house is a double-height living room with its fine books, art and curiosities, as well as a link to the outside world through TV/DVD. It is full of light and communes with the garden through the wall of French windows. Off this room is bedroom 1 and up the stairs is bedroom 2.

Kitchen and dining room

Off the living room are the kitchen and dining room (above). The kitchen is well equipped with a 4-ring cooker, oven, dishwasher, fridge-freezer, and all the equipment you might need.

Garden & Pool

The swimming pool is 10m long and has comfortable seating on sunloungers with mattresses, and tables for meals or drinks. There is also a 1-bedroom rental house on the grounds, and if that is also rented, its occupants have use of the pool.  To the side of the pool, in a lush dell of semi-tropical foliage, is another dining table (below left) - you can't have too many al fresco dining options. By the pool is a summer kitchen with cooker, fridge/freezer, dishwasher. The pool can be heated at a cost of 100 euros per week.

There is an abundance of outside spaces for eating, lounging and relaxing. In the summer you will find cooler spots amid the thick foliage.

The owners spend the summer months in another house on the same grounds but well away from the Art House, so you are not aware of it, with its own separate access from the road and parking. They are available if you have any problems or need any advice on restaurants, villages, events, etc. The owners have two well-behaved and friendly dogs.

The Location

Gordes, 4 miles away, is one of the most beautiful villages in France.

The house is in quiet and beautiful countryside, right in the Golden Triangle of the Luberon, with the closest villages Gordes, 4 miles away, and Goult, 2.5miles away.

Around the house you will find cherry trees where you can eat your fill in May and June, and a total calm broken only by birdsong and the choir of cicadas. You can wonder the hilltop behind the house and discover stone structures of antiquity - dolmen, borie, menhir, a Roman path - and get to the village of Gordes across country in 45 minutes.

Gordes and Goult are two of the most striking villages of Provence. Gordes is the most majestic of the Luberon hill-top villages, with plenty of restaurants, cafes, shops and cultural events, while Goult is a relatively unknown treasure, with good eateries and a beautifully preserved old neighbourhood with bakery, butcher, grocery store.

Close by are all the other notable hill-top villages like Menerbes, Bonnieux, Lacoste, Goult, Oppede le vieux, and Roussillon. Each is 10-15 minutes away, and Lourmarin is 30 minutes.

Fontaine de Vaucluse and the antiques capital of Isle-sur-la-Sorgue are 15 minutes away, the medieval city of Avignon is 40 minutes, and within an hour or so are Aix-en-Provence, St Remy, Arles, Mont Ventoux, Les Baux de Provence, Orange, and the start of the Rhone wine trail.

You'll find a market every day at a different village, including the one in Gordes on Tuesday mornings.

A beautiful visit to Provence

The Art House was an excellent choice for four friends that wanted to experience Provence. The home and extensive grounds are lovely, well cared for, and so spacious. Jacques, the owner, was very gracious and really wanted to help with travel arrangements as needed. Art was evident everywhere inside the home and outdoors. We enjoyed dinner at the pool one evening; such a view. We traveled a lot because of the great location. We went to Isle sur la Sorgue for the market, Villes sur Auzon for the electric bike ride in the vineyard, Nice for a cooking class and the Mediterranen, Cassis for a full day on the Med and Calanques, Aix en Provence for the big market on Thursday, St Remy and Les Baux for Carrieres de Lumieres. Many trips to Gordes as we were just a few km away. It is a lovely town. We could not have found a prettier setting to return to each day. We would highly recommend to friends or family. Would love to return tomorrow.

Art House Luberon

We have become accustomed to photos of properties that over-promise and under-deliver upon arrival. I'm happy to report that The Art House delivered what it promised, and more! This really is a spectacular property, and is obviously the result of many years of careful and sensitive integration of excellent architecture, interior design & landscape design by owners with impeccable taste. The design allowed us to spread out and find our own courtyard, nook or cranny in which to relax, depending on the mood, time of day etc. It's location ensured that the ambience was very quiet and restful. Of course, arriving to a huge plate of freshly picked organic cherries & peaches, was a real treat. And it wasn't the last time either, it being the middle of the harvest season. The 2 owners were very friendly and helpful, and by the end of our week with them, it felt more like a friendship rather than a business transaction. In them one senses real pride in the Luberon. The family and I would go back in a flash!
