Living Rooms

Living room with TV and stairs to the upstairs bedrooms.

The living room has satellite TV/DVD, including CNN and BBC World, and hi-fi/CD player. There is comfortable seating on sofas and armchairs for 6. The house has free WiFi internet.

The living room opens out to the pool through sliding windows.

The picture above right shows how close it is from the dining room to the pool, so this house is not suitable for children who cannot swim.

The dining room opens onto the pool area and terrace, facing south.

The dining room is next to the living room and both open onto the pool area. Both rooms are light and spacious and look south to the view. Over the dining room windows there are awnings to keep the summer sun out.

the kitchen (above) includes fridge/freezer, oven, 4-ring halogen stove, microwave, coffee machine, kettle, dishwasher, and washing machine. There is a view through a big window to the terraced garden at the back. The kitchen is in between the living room and dining room.

The villa sleeps 6 in 3 bedrooms. 2 bedrooms have a double bed, and the third bedroom can be either a double bed or two singles. One of the doubles is downstairs, the other bedrooms are upstairs.

Air conditioned Bedroom 1 and its panoramic Luberon view.

Bedrooms 1 and 3 have a 1.6m-wide (5.25ft) bed, and bedroom 2 is either a double or two single beds of 90cm width (3ft). Bedroom 1 is air conditioned and if you leave the doors of these bedrooms open, both can benefit from the a.c.

Master bathroom en suite to bedroom 1. Bedroom 2 upstairs, which can be a double or two singles.

Upstairs, bedroom 1 has an en suite bathroom (above left) with bath-tub, walk-in shower and basin, and there is a separate WC with basin on the landing.

Air conditioned bedroom 3 and its bathroom are downstairs.

Downstairs, bedroom 3 has a 1.6m bed (5' 3") and is air conditioned. The downstairs bathroom is opposite bedroom 3 and has shower, WC and basin.

Garden & Pool

The garden is 3.7 acres and is on different levels in front of and behind the house, with lovely old olive trees, cherry trees and oak. At the front of the house is the south-facing terrace and pool with a fantastic Luberon view.

The pool is heated has the high view over the Luberon valley to the mountain, including Bonnieux and Roussillon. The pool is 9m x 4m, with steps at the shallow end. There is a sliding electric cover for security.

Next to the pool are sunloungers with mattresses, and a dining table and chairs under the shade of a tree.

There are great views from the garden and the pool area of the Luberon plain all around, with its patchwork of vineyards and orchards, and some of the famed hill-top villages of the region - Roussillon, Bonnieux, and Gordes itself.

Arriving at the house. Wide and far-reaching view from the pool and terrace.

The garden is not suitable for letting toddlers play in unattended because there are places where there is a 10ft drop to the next level. With this and the proximity of the pool to the house, any children in your party must be old enough to swim.

View from the garden behind the house. The superb village of Gordes is just 600 metres away.

To the back of the house is a terraced garden with olive and cherry trees (pictured below).

The land to the back of the house has its own olive grove.

There are two bories, which are the dry stone huts built by shepherds long ago, so typical of the region - they are very picturesque and also fun for children.

In the garden there is an authentic 'borie' - a dry stone hut built by shepherds long ago.

The owners of the Villa Gordes live next door. They are available in the evening if you need help with anything, from language difficulties to restaurant recommendations.

There is parking by the house for two cars. The house is 200 metres away from the road, which is itself a quiet road as it is for residents only, so this is a very peaceful location a short walk from the village of Gordes.

The Location

Gordes is one of the most beautiful villages in France.

Villa Gordes is just 600 metres from the stunning village of Gordes, which is the biggest of the Luberon hill-top villages, with plenty of restaurants, cafes, shops and cultural events, so it is an ideal base from which to explore the Luberon and Provence.

The Luberon is known for the beauty of its perched villages, in addition to Gordes, close by are Menerbes, Bonnieux, Lacoste, Oppede-le-vieux, Roussillon and many others. Each is a short drive away.

You'll find a market every day at a different village, including the one in Gordes on Tuesday mornings.

Away from the Luberon, the rest of Provence is at most a day-trip away: the cities of Avignon, Aix, Arles, Nimes, Marseille; the natural wonders of the Les Baux de Provence, Gorges du Verdon, the Alps and the Rhone wine trail; the French Riviera (Cote d'Azur) from Monte Carlo to St Tropez. Even Italy and Spain are in striking distance.

Peaceful with a stunning view

Our family has just returned from a wonderful week at Villa Gordes. The view is stunning and it was so relaxing to sit by the pool, eat on the terrace or enjoy a glass of wine taking it all in. The location couldn't be better - the villa is in a peaceful area, not overlooked by anyone, yet within an easy 15 minute walk into the centre of the village with all its amenities. It's an uphill walk, but quite a gentle uphill. The house was clean with an extremely well equipped kitchen. We were glad of the air conditioning in the bedrooms as it was very hot while we were there. The bedroom without air conditioning had a fan. There is also a petanque court at the back of the house which was a pleasant surprise. Due to the pandemic we didn't venture far afield but the villa is really well placed to visit all the surrounding hilltop villages as well as places further afield. Besides it was hard to tear ourselves away from the view and the inviting pool! We can't thank Richard enough - my husband had a very serious medical emergency a couple of months before our booking and we weren't sure he would be able to travel. Richard was kind enough to keep our booking open until we had the go ahead from doctors and a week in his beautiful house was just what was needed after a very stressful time. It was lovely to be able to finally meet Richard when we arrived and he was helpful, charming and provided a fridge full of goodies which was much appreciated. Would highly recommend Villa Gordes.

Beautiful Gordes Villa

We had a wonderful stay in Gordes at this well-appointed villa. Everything is exactly as advertised and the layout and amenities suited our family. The kitchen was well equipped and had everything you could need to self-cater if you choose to cook at home. On arrival, we were pleased to find Richard had left a small selection of supplies including wine, in the fridge which was very kind of him and which we greatly appreciated. The pool area and terrace were wonderful, and the view across the landscape from the terrace was stunning. The whole house was spotlessly clean and well stocked with towels. For anyone staying longer than a week the washing machine would be very useful. There was covered parking and a BBQ which we made good use of. The location on the edge of the village ( reached by going straight through the centre of the village and downhill) was very convenient. Our one caveat is that if walking into the village the hill was quite steep and required a reasonable amount of fitness, ours improved as our stay went on! If going into the village by car, the residents parking permit loaned to us by the house owner allowed us to park right in the centre of the village near the convenience store. This shop was very well stocked and the owners very friendly, there is a large supermarket a few KM away which has a great selection of foods for the BBQ and all the other necessities one could need. There are several good restaurants in the centre of Gordes, although we were surprised by the number of Italian restaurants! We tried out quite a few of the restaurants and enjoyed them all. We also visited many of the surrounding villages and ate there at lunchtime when we were out and about. We found that there were many places of interest within a reasonable driving distance, we particularly enjoyed Fountain De Vaucluse, Menerbes (of Peter Mayle fame) where we had a great (if expensive) meal at the Bistro as you arrive into the town, and Lourmarin which was very picturesque. Our thanks must go to Richard and his mother for their fantastic hospitality and their friendliness to us all. They were on hand if we needed anything but respected our privacy at all other times. I must also say that Richard was very responsive to all my queries prior to arrival and very sympathetic to a medical issue which almost prevented us from staying at the villa. Thankfully, we managed to get the problem resolved and were able to enjoy our holiday. Due to the medical issue, we had to alter our travel plans and use the Eurostar rather than fly. We found this to be a great mode of transport and our arrival in Avignon meant that we had a short drive to the villa rather than the much longer one that we would have had from Nice airport. To sum up, we would have no hesitation in recommending this villa for anyone wanting to holiday in the very pretty village of Gordes, and we could easily have stayed another week. Enjoy!

Wonderful holiday

The property was everything it said it would be, clean, comfortable and tranquil. The owner was extremely helpful and we definitely plan to come back again. The villages of the Luberon are very pretty and the markets are well worth exploring.
