The kitchen is very well equipped with a professional, double-width cooker and American fridge-freezer. There are all sorts of gadgets and all the eseentials, and plenty of crockery and glassware. Large windows open from the kitchen to the outside dining table under the trellis.

A separate laundry room houses the washing and drying machines. There is also a downstairs guest WC.

There are 4 bedrooms, sleeping 8 people, and 3 bathrooms. Every bedroom is air-conditioned.

There are two shaded patio areas at the front of the house, for outside eating, one right outside the kitchen, along with barbecue. After that there is the lawn and olive grove and then the amazing high view.

Behind and up a level is the pool. The pool is 12m x 6m. It is fenced but you also need to keep two doors upstairs locked to keep children out. So it may not be suitable for smaller children.

There is a gate at street level with coded access, and enough parking for three cars in the shade (see left).

The Location

Villa Belle Vue is 1 km from the stunning village of Gordes, which is the biggest of the Luberon hill-top villages, with plenty of restaurants, cafes, shops and cultural events, so it is an ideal base from which to explore the Luberon and Provence.

The Luberon is known for the beauty of its perched villages, in addition to Gordes, close by are Menerbes, Bonnieux, Lacoste, Oppede-le-vieux, Roussillon and many others. Each is a short drive away.

You'll find a market every day at a different village, including the one in Gordes on Tuesday mornings.

Away from the Luberon, the rest of Provence is at most a day-trip away: the cities of Avignon, Aix, Arles, Nimes, Marseille; the natural wonders of the Gorges du Verdon, the Alps and the Rhone wine trail; the French Riviera (Cote d'Azur) from Monte Carlo to St Tropez. Even Italy and Spain are in striking distance.

Belle Vue - a lovely base from which to explore and unwind

We (family of four plus parents) had a wonderful stay at Belle Vue. The property is large enough, with discrete areas, to provide space for groups and individuals to enjoy the stay as a group, or separately. Situated half way up the approach to Gordes, unsurprisingly it has a lovely view of the surrounding countryside but also affords easy access to Gordes and other Luberon villages. The property was very clean and the grounds very well maintained. There are a range of eating and sightseeing activities to suit all tastes and budgets within a short drive. Our group visited traditional Provencal sights but also ventured further afield to ride Mt Ventoux and enjoy outward bound activities. Mme Pouzel was easy to deal with when booking and available during our stay to deal with enquiries. It is a good set up and we would recommend to others looking to experience the Luberon in comfort

Lovely house with amazing views

This year was our fourth at Belle Vue. It is a very attractive house, well equipped with stunningly beautiful long-reaching views both during the day, and in the evenings sitting on the terrace. This year the owner has put in air conditioning and this is a huge bonus, particularly as we were there in high temperatures. It was lovely before, but this has taken it up to a different level. It is so convenient for the beautiful village of Gordes with its shops and restaurants, as well as many of the other villages of the Luberon. The house is well furnished and the kitchen well equipped, and there is a very nice pool which also benefits from the views over the valley. We have always enjoyed our stays there.

Our booking was very last minute and Josiane was very accommodating and easy to contact and converse with. Unfortunately our flight from the UK was 4 hours late, which meant we arrived all the shops were closed. Josiane’s son kindly called a local restaurant and arranged take away pizzas for us to pick up. The house was beautifully clean and well equipped. It does have the French bathroom arrangement of one separate WC on each floor, which was fine. The shower has a view to die for across the valley towards Lacoste and Bonnieux. Photographs of the house, garden and pool do not do it justice, it is in a heavenly location with outstanding views. The garden is beautiful and attended to by the 7am garden fairy. At 12m in length the pool is fantastic for swimming lengths, necessary after daily trips to the boulangeries in Gordes and Coustellet. For younger children, there is a 4m shallow end, meaning everyone can enjoy the pool. If it wasn’t so hot we may have walked up to Gordes. If you didn’t want to travel more than 5 minutes by car from the house, you can find everything you need in the small shops in the village. If you are looking for a week of peace and quiet in Provence, Belle Vie is ideal. It is literally possible to sit on the terrace with a glass of rosé and stare out at that view for hours - blissful!
