La Fontaine de Faucon, Goult, Provence

Luxury Provence rental villa with heated pool

Fontaine de Faucon is a 6-bedroom, 5-bathroom renovated 18th century farmhouse in beautiful countryside but only 10 minutes walk to the lovely Provence village of Goult. The house is set around a courtyard and heated pool, amid the vines, and with a landscaped garden designed by Nicole de Vesian.

Living Rooms

Very comfortable living room with TV corner, opening onto two outside spaces.

The ground floor is mostly taken up by two excellent large spaces: the living room and kitchen.

The L-shaped living room opens through french doors onto both the south-facing courtyard and the west-facing terrace. The room has two areas - around the fireplace with sofas and armchairs, and a reading or TV corner.

A real chef's kitchen.

The big chef's kitchen is a wonderful place to gather and prepare food. In the centre is a large island worktop, the range cooker is double-size, there is also all the equipment you would need, 2 refrigerators and a dishwasher. The dining table is also in the kitchen by the french doors.

Also on the ground floor are the laundry room with washer and dryer, and guest WC.

There are 6 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms: the bedrooms are 5 doubles and one twin room. The twin and one double form a family suite, so the house is for up to 10 adults plus 2 children. One bedroom is on the ground floor, and one is in a separate building across the courtyard. For flexibility, two of the doubles can be configured with two single beds.

Bedroom 3 (below) is on the ground floor, so no stairs, and can be either two single beds or a 1.8m-wide double (6ft). En suite is a bathroom with shower and seat, double basin and WC.

Bedroom 3 is downstairs, ideal for those with reduced mobility, the shower also has a seat.

Bedrooms 4 and 5, along with their own bathroom, form a family suite. You walk through the double bedroom to get to the children's twin room.

Across the courtyard (below) is a converted pigeonnier (pigeon loft), a common feature of 18th century farmhouses in Provence. This now has a bedroom upstairs with 1.6m-wide double (5.25ft), opening onto the pool area. Downstairs is the bathroom with shower, basin and separate WC.

Garden & Pool

The house has 1.5 ha of land (3.7 acres) in a very peaceful and private setting amid vines and cherry trees. From the garden and terrace there are views of the perched medieval village of Goult, with its windmill still standing.

The pool is heated and measures 12m x 6m (40 x 20ft). The pool area gets sun all day, and has shade too.

The courtyard at the front of the house has a lovely dining place under the shade of the wisteria (above left).

Dining and relaxation spot facing west in the garden.

On the garden side facing west are the other outdoor dining table and shaded sitting area (above), which is a delightful spot to enjoy the evening light.

Sculpted garden by Nicole de Vesian.

The most notable feature outside is the sculpted topiary garden (above) which was created by Nicole de Vesian, a renowned and influential Provence garden designer.

If you are feeling energetic there is a boules/petanque court (below left) next to the topiary garden.

The house is in a very peaceful country setting, and there is room for several cars to park outside the courtyard.

The Location

Goult, just 600 metres away, is a hidden treasure of the Luberon: a gem of a village, with a very pleasant atmosphere, a good café/restaurant on the main square, and a 'hidden' and beautifully preserved old neighbourhood with bakery, butcher, grocery store and several restaurants, all a short walk away. The village also has public tennis courts.

Goult has a market on Thursday mornings, and there is a market in a nearby village every day of the week.

The other perched hill-top villages of the Luberon, like Menerbes, Gordes, Bonnieux, Roussillon, Lacoste, and Oppede le vieux are all 10-15 minutes away.

Fontaine de Vaucluse and the antiques capital of Isle-sur-la-Sorgue are 20 minutes away, the medieval city of Avignon is 40 minutes, and within an hour or so are Aix-en-Provence, St Remy, Arles, Mont Ventoux, Les Baux de Provence, Orange, and the start of the Rhone wine trail.

You can make a comfortable day-trip to the Cote d'Azur from Monte Carlo to St Tropez, Marseille, the fishing village of Cassis and the calanques, Arles, Nimes, the Camargue, the Alps, the Gorges du Verdon, and the Rhone wine trail all the way to Lyon.

Lovely house in a beautiful, private location

We have been renting this property every other year or so for the past 12 years. We keep coming back because it is a magical spot. The house itself is very roomy and comfortable, and has a huge and very well-equipped kitchen for people to gather in. There are multiple places to gather outside as well, including a recently added grilling/dining/sitting area with views of the Luberon. The location is completely private, but it is within easy walking distance of the town of Goult, which has several very good restaurants and cafės, and stores carrying all the necessities. Both the owner and the property manager were extremely helpful and quick to respond to questions, etc. We will be back!

A beautifull fountain

A friendly welcome by the owners made us feel like home immediately. The house, all spaces, are warmly furnished and decorated in style. All clean and regularly looked after very well by the cleaning staff. During our stay all of our family members spent most of their time in the centrally located kitchen with lots of space and the beautifull cour. Goult is a nice village just a 10 minutes walk away and we enjoy the luberon anyway as one of the nicest places in france. We will be back !
