The Location

Scenes from the village of Goult, in the heart of the Luberon.

The house is in a very peaceful part of Goult, one of the best villages of the Luberon. It is a 1-minute stroll to all the amenities, including the iconic Cafe de la Poste in the main square. Goult is a little-known gem of a village, with a lovely atmosphere, several good restaurants, a cafe, as well as a 'hidden' and beautifully preserved old neighbourhood with bakery, butcher, grocery store. The village also has public tennis courts.

Goult has a seasonal market on Thursday mornings, and there is a market in a nearby village every day of the week.

The other perched hill-top villages of the Luberon, like Menerbes, Gordes, Bonnieux, Roussillon, Lacoste, and Oppede le vieux are all 10-15 minutes away.

Fontaine de Vaucluse and the antiques capital of Isle-sur-la-Sorgue are 20 minutes away, the medieval city of Avignon is 40 minutes, and within an hour or so are Aix-en-Provence, St Remy, Arles, Mont Ventoux, Les Baux de Provence, Orange, and the start of the Rhone wine trail.

You can make a comfortable day-trip to the Cote d'Azur from Monte Carlo to St Tropez, Marseille, the fishing village of Cassis and the calanques, Arles, Nimes, the Camargue, the Alps, the Gorges du Verdon, and the Rhone wine trail all the way to Lyon.

Nearby Gordes, one of the most beautiful villages in France.

Truly Belle de Goult

The house has been beautifully renovated and decorated in a modern and simple style. The interior of the house is well laid out for two couples, and the kitchen and bathrooms are very well equipped. However, most of the compliments have to go to the layout of the exterior with its pretty garden, lovely pool, and just stunning views of the valley behind. If that isn't enough just picture a simple village on your doorstep with virtually every classic French shop you might need for a holiday. There are also 3 or 4 restaurants in walking distance, and we would certainly recommend Le Carillon, La Bartavelle, and strangely a lovely small Italian restaurant - just near La Poste - which we hesitated to try but were very pleased that we did. Florence was very easy to contact and very helpful when we had a question or two. The house and its village are as near perfection as we have encountered - and we have been holidaying in villas all over Europe for many years.

Great stay for 2 couples

The property is great, really well set-up for 2 couples with good sized rooms, both with lovely views across the countryside. Easy access to the village (all down hill) with everything you could want on your door step. Goult is a good place to base yourself because it feels a little more "real" than some of the other hillside villages, but they are all within easy reach. Plenty of outdoor space at the property itself, with a great shaded area and comfortable seating at the bottom of the garden underneath the fig tree. The pool was just what we needed in the heat and it can provide a very refreshing dip. We catered for ourselves every evening and that was very easy in the kitchen and could eat either inside or out and then settle in for a chat and a glass of local wine during the evening. All the arrangements went very well, from dealing with Florence and meeting Megan on arrival day. I would follow the advice of others and park in Place de la Republique because it is a short walk to the property and unless you are in a very small car it is really very very tight. We heartily recommend it!

A Little Gem

The plain façade of Belle de Goult gives not a clue as to the delight that awaits behind the front door. The property has been fitted to a high standard for a holiday home. There are ‘his and hers’ basins in the main bathroom with a separate shower and toilet. The second bedroom upstairs has another shower and toilet; however, this bedroom also leads out onto a lovely veranda with far reaching views across the valley where we enjoyed our petit dejeuner each morning. Downstairs is another shower in the utility room and another separate toilet. The kitchen is well equipped and there are two large pairs of sliding doors that lead from the open plan downstairs accommodation out on to another dining location on the terrace. The efficient air conditioning was a real bonus as the temperatures rose to over 35 degrees. At the bottom of the garden the decking around the pool affords another location to indulge in canapes and aperitifs whilst gazing across the valley as it glows with the setting sun. Goult itself is a delightful unspoilt real village well served with a boulangerie, épicerie, butcher and of course the Café de la Poste. We have stayed in Goult several times before taking lots of photographs of the area which was the purpose of our visit, this time to catch the lavender in full bloom. We can thoroughly recommend this house for 2 couples or a small family; as there were only the two of us this time we really enjoyed the space and opportunity to relax.
