5-bedroom Provence villa in a quiet Luberon village

 

Villa Saumane is a very comfortable 5-bedroom holiday villa for up to 10 people, in the little Provence village of Saumane de Vaucluse. It's in a quiet setting but very close to the charms and amenities of Fontaine de Vaucluse and Isle sur la Sorgue.

Living Rooms

Downstairs are the open-plan kitchen and dining room, a great space for entertaining, which opens out onto the terraces outside.

The kitchen is very well equipped with a large 1.5 size oven, 5 gas burners, American fridge-freezer with ice maker, second fridge for drinks, dishwasher, and microwave. In a pantry off the kitchen are the washing machine and tumble dryer. A granite breakfast bar separates kitchen from dining room, which seats 8 people and has a wood-burning stove for winter stays.

 

The living room opens out to the terrace.

Off the dining room are the two living rooms, one with TV/DVD (below right). The second living room (above) opens out to the south-facing terrace.

The house has WiFi internet, and a guest WC.




Bedrooms

There are 5 bedrooms, three with ensuite bathrooms and two sharing a bathroom.

The spacious master bedroom (above) has a 1.8m-wide (6ft) bed and an en suite bathroom with jacuzzi bath, shower, WC and basin. The bedroom opens onto its own shaded terrace with the pool beyond.

Bedroom 2 (above) has a 1.6m-wide (5.25ft) bed and en suite bathroom with walk-in shower, basin and WC. The bedroom has a great view of the village and castle, and down the valley beyond.

The other bedrooms are a double, a twin room with two single beds, and the double room in the garage annex and en suite shower room with basin and WC.

Two child cribs can be supplied.

Garden & Pool

Outside the villa is a fantastic view, pool, three terraces and boules court. In the terraced garden there are even a couple of 16th century bories, the stone shepherds' huts typical of the region.

The pool is on the upper terrace and measures 10m x 5m (33 x 16ft). There are sunloungers and parasols, and knockout view down the valley, with the village and chateau of Saumane in the foreground (below right).

Below the pool, on the same level as the kitchen and dining room are terraces on two sides of the house.

 

Coming out from the kitchen there is the outside dining table under the shade of a pergola (above). Also on this level is a boules court edged with lavender, and the gas barbecue.

 

On the other terrace is a seating area with comfortable sofas and armchair (above), with view of the medieval village of Saumane. Beyond the terraces are oak trees and the bories for children to explore.

 

The house has an electronic gated entrance and secure parking for several cars to the back.




The Location

<

Senanque Abbey, Isle sur la Sorgue and Gordes.

The villa is in the quiet village of Saumane de Vaucluse, which is a perched village of the Luberon, with a 14th century chateau, 12th century Romanesque church and vestiges of ramparts. There are picturesque little cobbled streets and great views.

The nearest place with amenities is Fontaine de Vaucluse 3 miles away, and 5 miles away is the wonderful little town of l'Isle sur la Sorgue, which is full of restaurants and shops, as well as being France's antiques capital.

The other perched hill-top villages of the Luberon, like Menerbes, Gordes, Bonnieux, Roussillon, Lacoste, Goult, and Oppede le vieux are all 15-25 minutes away.

The medieval city of Avignon is 30 minutes, and within an hour are Aix-en-Provence, St Remy, Mont Ventoux, Les Baux de Provence, Orange, and the start of the Rhone wine trail.

You can make a comfortable day-trip to the Cote d'Azur from Monte Carlo to St Tropez, Marseille, the fishing village of Cassis and the calanques, Arles, Nimes, the Camargue, the Alps, the Gorges du Verdon, and the Rhone wine trail all the way to Lyon.

Saumane is also known for its very good golf course (with tennis too) at Provence Country Club, which is 5 minutes away.

Fantastic house in a great location

We spend a week with 5 adults and 3 children in Sofie's house and very much enjoyed our time there. The house is spacious, with several areas inside and outside where you can sit together or spend some time on your own if you want. The kitchen has everything you need, esp 2 refrigerators is always great when you are with a larger group. Nice pool area which was intensively used with the 35+ degrees when we stayed there. The location is great, lots of things to see and do in the nearby area and a very good supermarket less than 10 mins from the house. Communication with the owner was quick and clear and very much appreciated that she was willing to think of solutions in case of an unexpected return of the lockdowns due to corona. We will happily come back here!

Breathtaking views

We have just returned after a 2 week stay at Villa Saumane - we have 2 young children (4 & 3 yrs old) and absolutely loved our stay. As some of the other reviews refer to, Villa Saumane is even nicer than the photos displayed - it is perched high up behind the village of Saumane with breathtaking views across the valley. The house is immaculate, big spacious kitchen come diner with 2 cosy living areas. The pool area is fantastic and perfect for young families - it has a safe gate around it and an electric cover. There are so many beautiful little areas to relax for a glass of wine in the terrace and garden - every day we found somewhere new. On top of all of this the owner, Sofie, and Djamel who manages the house are so accommodating, friendly and thoughtful - having little welcome gifts for when we arrived, checking in throughout the stay, quick responses to any questions and lots of recommendations whenever you need them. I cannot recommend this wonderful Provençal haven enough, we can't wait to go back next year!

Wonderful!

We loved this beautiful house -- it was even nicer than the pictures. Lots of room for five adults and two kids. We really enjoyed the pool and outdoor spaces for dining and hanging out. Beautiful location and close to charming towns including Gordes. The owner was very communicative and helpful. We accidently set off the alarm and the manager came over quickly to help us fix it. I would definitely book this house again.

Included in the rental rates: bedlinen, towels, pool towels, utilities, WiFi internet, and after-stay clean. Visitor tax is 2.53 euros per adult per night.

Rental periods run from Saturday 4pm to Saturday 10am.

To secure a booking you would send a 25% deposit, with the balance payable up to 8 weeks before your stay.
 There is a refundable security deposit of 600 euros against any breakages or damage.

Cancellation policy: if we can find another booking for your dates we will return any money sent (minus bank charges).

The house is for a maximum of 10 people. We regret that pets and smoking are not allowed in the property.
