Loft des Antiquaires, Isle sur Sorgue, Provence

Stunning apartment in the heart of Isle-sur-la-Sorgue

Le Loft des Antiquaires is an exceptional ground floor apartment, right in the centre of one of the great little towns of Provence - Isle-sur-la Sorgue - it's romantic and very stylish. Isle-sur-la-Sorgue is the antiques capital of France as well as being a lively and beautiful town full of life, restaurants, cafes, and boutiques - and it's all right on the doorstep.

The building dates to 1596, the restoration to 2013. Everything in the apartment has come from the antiques sellers of Isle-sur-la Sorgue (who number 250+). For instance, the wooden partitions are from the old stables at the Chateau de Saumane, the writing desks are made from sculptor's workbenches.

It's called a loft because it is loft-style living - bright, roomy, with everything in one space, and its own front door to the street. You walk into the entrance, then the kitchen and off that are the bedroom and sitting room. The bedroom has a 1.6m-wide bed (5.25ft), and a dressing room behind. The floor area is 82 square metres (880 ft).

The kitchen is very well equipped with large oven and cooker, diswasher, Smeg fridge, and separately a washing machine/dryer. There is a dining table in the kitchen or the table and chairs out on the terrace.

The bathroom (below) has a walk-in shower, basin and WC. Being on the ground floor and with the ancient, thick stone walls, the apartment won't get too warm in summer.

The apartment has WiFi internet. In the kitchen on the wall is a large flat-screen TV with satellite channels including CNN, and other functions like the Deezer music service. The TV can be tilted to view from the bed as well. The phone is free for calls to most landlines of the world, as well as US/Canadian cell phones.

And crucially the apartment has its own parking space, 5 minutes walk away, outside the tight streets of the old part of town.

Note: Rentals run Friday to Friday.

The Location

Scenes from L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, where the apartment is located.

The Provence town of L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue is known as the antiques capital of France, with a great concentration of antiques stores and a famous Sunday market for antiques and bric-a-brac, as well as food. The apartment is in the centre of the old quarter, the most charming district of Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, full of boutiques, cafes and restaurants. Isle-sur-la-Sorgue is a place that is buzzing year-round.

The perched hill-top villages of the Luberon, like Menerbes, Gordes, Bonnieux, Roussillon, Lacoste, Goult, and Oppede le vieux are all 15-30 minutes away.

Fontaine de Vaucluse is a couple of miles upstream, the medieval city of Avignon is 30 minutes, and within an hour are Aix-en-Provence, St Remy, Mont Ventoux, Les Baux de Provence, Orange, and the start of the Rhone wine trail.

You can make a comfortable day-trip to the Cote d'Azur from Monte Carlo to St Tropez, Marseille, the fishing village of Cassis and the calanques, Arles, Nimes, the Camargue, the Alps, the Gorges du Verdon, and the Rhone wine trail all the way to Lyon.

So welcoming!

The Loft is a very special place. A womb, buried inside stone walls, the Loft somehow feels both warm and cool, cozy yet grand, quirky yet classic. We loved the location, used it as a base to explore the Luberon and beyond, and though the sites were astonishing, we always found ourselves hurrying back to the Loft. Marlyse herself was a gracious host - warm, efficient, and welcoming. Couldn’t have asked for a better stay.

Yes, Yes, Yes!

We spent an idyllic week in Provence with Loft des Antiquaires as our cozy home away from home. Marlyse is lovely, communicative, warm, and welcoming, meeting us upon arrival out on the main road where she could direct us to parking. L'Isle-Sur-La-Sorgue could not be a more charming village--the perfect blend of shops, restaurants, and beauty, it is at once vibrant and peaceful. Loft des Antiquaires is clean, beautifully furnished, and a few steps down a narrow street off the main square of the town which is home to a gorgeous church, coffee, patisseries and more. While we enjoyed large, long French lunches during our day travels (L'Isle is a very central location), we loved coming home to this cool, quiet nest and winding up our day on the courtyard patio with wine and a light dinner of cheese, vegetables and fruit purchased from the extraordinary Sunday farmer's market. In short, we have just returned home and are already planning our booking at Loft des Antiquaires for next year.

Amazing Apartment

This apartment was absolutely beautiful and decorated in such a stylish manner. We couldn’t fault the location, perfectly located to everything you wanted to see. Marlyse was a great host and always quick with any communication. Loved our four nights there .
