The Little House, Joucas, Provence

Little gem of a rental in the heart of the Luberon

The Little House is a perfect 2-bedroom rental for year-round access to the golden triangle of the Luberon. It has all the amenities you might want, including pool and garden, and is 5 minutes stroll to the beautiful village of Joucas, or 10 minutes drive to Gordes. The Little House is part of a hamlet of 4 separate rental properties, each renovated for high-end rentals in 2012.

Living Room

The ground floor is open plan, with immaculate kitchen, dining table and living room.

The kitchen has fridge/freezer, small dishwasher, oven, 4-ring cooker, microwave and washing machine.

In the triple aspect living room are TV/DVD with UK channels, CD player, iPod dock and WiFi internet. French doors open onto the terrace and garden (above right).

Both bedrooms can be a large double or two singles.

Both bedrooms are upstairs and can be configured as either a 1.8m-wide double (6ft) or two single beds.

They share a bathroom with shower, sink, and WC.

Garden & Pool

The living room opens onto a large terrace and sun deck with views of the local village, Joucas.

On the terrace are a wooden dining table with parasol, sun loungers and a sitting area under the shade of the pergola.

In the middle of the lawn beyond the terrace is an above-ground pool which has been dug into the soil. The pool is round and 7 metres in diameter (23 feet).

Entrance to the Little House. Comfortable seating and sunlounging on the terrace.

There is secure parking with gated entrance. The house is one of four available to rent in the hamlet, each with its own private pool and garden. The British owners live very close by and are on hand for any problems, or advice on places to go, things to see.

The Location

Scenes from the village of Joucas, 500 metres away.

The house is 500 metres, or 3 minutes walk from Joucas, one of the lovely hill-top villages of the Luberon. Joucas has a food store, cafe, tennis courts and a playground. And surprisingly for a small, quiet village, there are three good restaurants in walking distance.

All the other picture-perfect 'perched' hill-top villages of the Luberon are within 15 minutes by car: Gordes, Roussillon, Lacoste, Oppede le vieux, Bonnieux, and Goult. Just beyond are the antiques capital of Isle sur la Sorgue and the very lovely Fontaine de Vaucluse.

Within an hour are Avignon, Aix-en-Provence, St Remy, Mont Ventoux, Les Baux de Provence, Orange, and the start of the Rhone wine trail.

There is a market every day in one of the surrounding villages.

You can make a comfortable day-trip of the Cote d'Azur from Monte Carlo to St Tropez, Marseille, the fishing village of Cassis and the calanques, Arles, Nimes, the Camargue, the Alps, the Gorges du Verdon, and the Rhone wine trail all the way to Lyon.

A little gem in Luberon

There were no surprises when we arrived at "The Little House" one of four properties at Mas de Rosemarie, each with their own pool and private garden The owners had provided lots on information, including detailed instructions and a map, and were there to meet us. We were accompanied by two friends from the UK making their first visit to Provence. "The Little House" is perfect for two couples and with its large patio, swimming pool and large private garden it would also be ideal for a family. Located just a kilometre from Joucas, it is the perfect location for exploring the Luberon and its villages. Although the owners are not on site, they live nearby and respond promptly to any questions. We hope to return next year. Highly recommended.

Le Mas de Rosemarie - a truly amazing find

We are not normally ones for going back to the same place twice but this is our second year here and we can't wait to go back again. Not only is the house amazing but so is the surrounding area. There is so much to do, you can't possibly get it done in one week. The property places you right in the heart of everything. We have 2 young kids (6 & 8) and they were on the go all week. But there is also plenty to do for older family and those without kids. We stayed in The Little House, which was perfect for us. The garden is huge and our 2 spent most of the week running round and diving into the pool. When they needed to get out of the sun they were able to run in and put on Netflix until they were ready to jump back in the pool again . On both occasions we have been here the property is clean, tidy and well stocked with everything you will need. Not that you need to do any cooking as there are so many fantastic places to eat nearby.
