La Bastide de Rosemarie, Joucas, Provence

Modern Provence living for 6 with Luberon village on the doorstep

The Bastide de Rosemarie is an excellent renovation of a Provence farmhouse, right by the hill-top village of Joucas and 10 minutes from Gordes, amid vineyards and orchards in the golden triangle of the Luberon. It sleeps 6 in great comfort and is part of a hamlet of 4 separate rental properties, each recently refurbished for high-end rentals.

Living Rooms

The stunning ground floor is all one space, with kitchen, dining and living rooms, beautiful Provencal beams overhead and a wall of glass doors onto the terrace and garden.

Living room sofas and TV with UK channels.

There are three large comfortable sofas set around an old stone fireplace, TV/DVD with UK channels, CD player with iPod dock, and WiFi internet.

The living room is centred on a beautiful old stone fireplace. Dining table for 8.

The dining table in the centre of this grand space seats 8.

The kitchen is very bright and ergonomic, a joy for cooking with family gathered around.

The kitchen has oven, 4-ring cooker, dishwasher, microwave, fridge-freezer and washing machine.

This is a living space designed with the perfect vacation rental in mind - very well equipped, very comfortable, a place for the whole group to gather, and spill out onto the terrace and pool area.

There are three bedrooms and two bathrooms, with two of the bedrooms offering the flexibility of either a double or two singles.

Master bedroom with 4-poster bed, and big en suite master bathroom with bath and shower.

The master bedroom (above) has a large four-poster bed, 1.8m wide (6ft), with a contemporary en-suite bathroom with standalone bath, separate shower, double sink and WC.

Bedroom 2 with big double or two singles. Bathroom 2 for bedrooms 2 and 3.

The second and third bedrooms (above and below) can either be a 1.8m-wide double (6ft) or two single beds. They share a large, modern bathroom, with clawfoot bath, separate shower, double sink and WC.

Bedroom 3 offers a big double or two singles, and a writing desk.
 The shower in bathroom 2.

Garden & Pool

To the front of the house are the terrace, garden and pool, with view of Gordes and the Luberon mountain.

The swimming pool is 11m x 4m (36 x 13ft) and built with traditional Provencal stone surrounds. To the west the perched village of Gordes provides a lovely foreground to the sunset.

The terrace is shaded by a vine-covered pergola. On the terrace are a comfortable seating area, a dining table and a Weber barbeque.

There is secure parking with gated entrance. The house is one of four available to rent in the hamlet, each with its own private pool and garden. The British owners live very close by and are on hand for any problems, or advice on places to go, things to see.

View from master bedroom towards Roussillon and Luberon mountain. The stunning village of Gordes, from the bottom of the garden.

The Location

Scenes from the village of Joucas.

The house is 500 metres, or 3 minutes walk from Joucas, one of the lovely hill-top villages of the Luberon. Joucas has a food store, cafe, tennis courts and a playground. And surprisingly for a small, quiet village, there are three good restaurants in walking distance.

All the other picture-perfect 'perched' hill-top villages of the Luberon are within 15 minutes by car: Gordes, Roussillon, Lacoste, Oppede le vieux, Bonnieux, and Goult. Just beyond are the antiques capital of Isle sur la Sorgue and the very lovely Fontaine de Vaucluse.

Within an hour are Avignon, Aix-en-Provence, St Remy, Mont Ventoux, Les Baux de Provence, Orange, and the start of the Rhone wine trail.

There is a market every day in one of the surrounding villages.

You can make a comfortable day-trip of the Cote d'Azur from Monte Carlo to St Tropez, Marseille, the fishing village of Cassis and the calanques, Arles, Nimes, the Camargue, the Alps, the Gorges du Verdon, and the Rhone wine trail all the way to Lyon.

Glorious relaxation in beautiful Luberon

We spent a week in Le Mas de Rosemarie staying in Le Bastide - one of four houses on the property. The house was outstanding and far exceeded our expectations - definitely better in real life than in the photos on the website! Loads of space in an open plan downstairs and 3 large bedrooms upstairs - perfect for our family of 5. The house came fully equipped with everything we could have thought of and was extremely comfortable. Beautiful covered terrace with a BBQ, outdoor dining and a swimming pool. Most of our time spent lazing around the pool and cooking lunches and dinner on the BBQ. Despite the peaceful countryside setting there was still plenty to do to keep over active children occupied including canoeing down the Sorgue and zip lining in Fontaine de Vaucluse. Gorgeous medieval villages dotted on hilltops with a wide choice of restaurants for the keen epicurean. It's not cheap but you certainly get what you pay for and as an occasional treat it was wonderful for 2 hard working parents and their energetic offspring! Would love to return.

Absolutely fabulous

Le Mas de Rosemarie has everything you could possibly need for a very relaxing stay in one of the most beautiful regions of France. We stayed in the Bastide, which is spacious, airy, extremely well equipped, wth comfortable beds and good quality linen. After a day of visiting the nearby hilltop villages a dip in the spotless pool was a welcome relief from the heat. We ate at some of the restaurants recommended by Nick and Rosemary. They did not disappoint at all. Le Mas de Rosemarie is a true gem in a fantastic location. We're already looking forward to our next visit.

We thought the property was fabulous

La Bastide is within an hour or so of all the major sites of Provence. The property is modern in every way, but still maintains an "old world" charm. The landscaping is lush, well maintained and provides privacy. The sparkling pool and outdoor lighting add to the ambience. I cannot say enough good things about our stay at La Bastide and the attentive owner, Nick. Quite frankly, if these accommodations do not meet your fancy, I would be startled........highly recommend!!!
