Le Mas de Rosemarie, Joucas, Provence

Contemporary Provence style for 6, a stone's throw from Joucas

Le Mas de Rosemarie is a beautifully restored Provence rental house for 6 people with heated pool. It is at the foot of the medieval village of Joucas in the Luberon, 10 minutes from Gordes, and part of a hamlet of 4 separate rental properties.

Living Rooms

You enter through a large, high-ceilinged Provencal kitchen, with a bay window looking over the garden and pool. The kitchen has a long worktop, oven, 5-ring cooker, American fridge-freezer with ice dispenser, dishwasher and microwave. There is a washing machine tucked away behind the kitchen.

The kitchen is bright and provides plenty of workspace.

Through an arch the kitchen goes through to the dining and living room (below) with its wall of windows onto the shaded terrace and garden.

The whole ground floor flows together and gives a great sense of space.

Comfortable sofas straddle the fireplace, and beyond this is the TV den/piano room (below right), with large flat screen TV, British freeview channels, DVD library, iPod dock, CD player. There is an upright piano and writing desk, and free WiFi internet throughout.

Sitting area seen from the dining table, and TV room beyond. The TV room with British freeview channels.

Bedrooms

There are three bedrooms and two bathrooms. Each bedroom has the option of a 1.8m-wide (6ft) double, or two single beds.

Master bedroom with its en suite of shower, basin and WC.

The spacious master bedroom (above) is dual aspect and has an open-plan en suite bathroom with shower, WC and basin.

Bedrooms 2 and 3, which can also be configured as twin single beds.

Bedrooms 2 and 3 (above) are also roomy and share the second bathroom.

The bathroom (left and right) has a Jacuzzi bath, separate shower, WC and double sink.

Garden & Pool

The heated pool is circular and 9 metres across, with sunloungers and a view of Roussillon.

All along the front of the house, facing south, is the shaded terrace with dining and lounging areas, and beyond that the lawned garden and pool.

On the terrace are a dining table for 8, comfortable armchairs and sofa, and barbeque. The view from the terrace is of the Luberon mountain.

There is secure parking with gated entrance. The house is one of four available to rent in the hamlet, each with its own private pool and garden. The British owners live very close by and are on hand for any problems, or advice on places to go, things to see.

The Location

Scenes from the village of Joucas.

The house is 500 metres, or 3 minutes walk from Joucas, one of the lovely hill-top villages of the Luberon. Joucas has a food store, cafe, tennis courts and a playground. And surprisingly for a small, quiet village, there are three good restaurants in walking distance.

All the other picture-perfect 'perched' hill-top villages of the Luberon are within 15 minutes by car: Gordes, Roussillon, Lacoste, Oppede le vieux, Bonnieux, and Goult. Just beyond are the antiques capital of Isle sur la Sorgue and the very lovely Fontaine de Vaucluse.

Within an hour are Avignon, Aix-en-Provence, St Remy, Mont Ventoux, Les Baux de Provence, Orange, and the start of the Rhone wine trail.

There is a market every day in one of the surrounding villages.

You can make a comfortable day-trip of the Cote d'Azur from Monte Carlo to St Tropez, Marseille, the fishing village of Cassis and the calanques, Arles, Nimes, the Camargue, the Alps, the Gorges du Verdon, and the Rhone wine trail all the way to Lyon.

Lovely holiday

We stayed at Mas de Rosemarie this summer for a fortnight and had the most amazing family holiday. The owners Nick and Rosemary were very welcoming and helpful. We stayed in The Mas, which is the most beautifully designed house with equally wonderful grounds. The children spent many happy hours in the pool. The location of Mas de Rosemarie is perfect for visiting the many beautiful towns in the area. We particularly loved Goult, Rousillon and Gordes which have wonderful restaurants. The area is also perfect for cycling. We would definitely love to stay here again in the future.

Perfect!

This is a lovely place to stay in a lovely part of the world. Nick and Rosemary are such nice people and spare no detail in making their lovely home comfortable and accommodating. The full kitchen has all the necessary amenities for preparing home cooked meals and there are many wonderful restaurant options within 10-20 km. The sitting areas are comfortable, inside and out, and the bedrooms are spacious with comfortable beds and marvelous views of the Luberon mountains across the valley. The landscaping around the yard and pool is thoughtful, beautiful, and affords great privacy. This is our second time to the Mas, both times visiting with other couples, primarily to hike, eat, and drink the lovely wines of the region. There is a wonderful library in the summer kitchen with maps and hiking resources. The covered parking is a nice amenity. I have no doubt that we will return to the Mas de Rosemarie. It is a jewel in one of the most lovely places on earth!

Perfect week in the Luberon!

We stayed at Le Mas de Rosemarie for a week during our first trip to Provence. The house was exactly as advertised on the website. It was spacious, clean and well stocked. We loved the outdoor patio and our kids enjoyed the pool. The kitchen was huge and we were able to use it to enjoy a 5 hour cooking lesson with a local chef. The property was well situated and we used it as a base to explore the region. There were many small towns nearby to explore and for those who want to venture further, it was just a 45-60 minute drive to places such as Avignon, St Remy and Valensole. Nick and Rosemarie were easily accessible during our stay and helped us with various meal reservations and trip suggestions. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to be back one day!
