Rosemarie's Cottage, Joucas, Provence

Snug Provence rental cottage for 6, a short stroll from Joucas

Rosemarie's Cottage is a cosy 3-bedroom rental property for 6 people who want a real Provence experience - whether at home with the garden and pool or out exploring all the nearby hill-top villages, markets and countryside. It is part of a hamlet of 4 separate, high-end rental properties, 500 metres from Joucas and 10 minutes from Gordes.

Living Rooms

The Cottage is decorated in the Provencal style, and retains 19th century floor tiles, fireplaces and beams.

The living room mixes the charm of the old with the convenience of the new.

In the living room are a stone fireplace, TV/DVD with English channels, CD player and iPod dock, and WiFi internet. The room opens onto the shaded terrace and garden.

Kitchen and dining room are cosy with Provencal beams in the ceiling.

The small kitchen is perfectly formed, with wall-mounted oven, 4-ring cooker, dishwasher, microwave, and fridge. There is also a laundry room and a second, larger fridge. Next to the kitchen is the snug dining room with fireplace.

The spiral staircase leads to the upstairs bedroom, ideal for kids.

Bedrooms

The Cottage has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Two bedrooms are on the ground floor, the third is upstairs.

Bedroom 1 on the ground floor with its en suite bathroom.

The two largest bedrooms are on the ground floor. They have the option of a large 1.8m-wide bed (6ft) or two single beds. Each bedroom also has a little terrace and a bathroom with shower, basin and WC.

Bedroom 2 on the ground floor, opening onto a table and chairs outside.

A spiral staircase leads to the third bedroom in the eaves (below right), which is ideal for children, with a wash basin and WC. The two single beds can be brought together to form a 1.8m-wide double.

Bedroom 2's en suite bathroom with shower. Bedroom 3 upstairs is popular with children.

Garden & Pool

From the living and dining rooms you step out to the south-facing terrace with its shaded dining table, and the garden and pool.

The bassin-style pool is 6m x 4m (20 x 13ft), and has sunloungers and an old olive tree standing guard.

There is secure parking with gated entrance. The house is one of four available to rent in the hamlet, each with its own private pool and garden. The British owners live very close by and are on hand for any problems, or advice on places to go, things to see.

The Location

Scenes from the village of Joucas, 500 metres away.

The house is 500 metres, or 3 minutes walk from Joucas, one of the lovely hill-top villages of the Luberon. Joucas has a food store, cafe, tennis courts and a playground. And surprisingly for a small, quiet village, there are three good restaurants in walking distance.

All the other picture-perfect 'perched' hill-top villages of the Luberon are within 15 minutes by car: Gordes, Roussillon, Lacoste, Oppede le vieux, Bonnieux, and Goult. Just beyond are the antiques capital of Isle sur la Sorgue and the very lovely Fontaine de Vaucluse.

Within an hour are Avignon, Aix-en-Provence, St Remy, Mont Ventoux, Les Baux de Provence, Orange, and the start of the Rhone wine trail.

There is a market every day in one of the surrounding villages.

You can make a comfortable day-trip of the Cote d'Azur from Monte Carlo to St Tropez, Marseille, the fishing village of Cassis and the calanques, Arles, Nimes, the Camargue, the Alps, the Gorges du Verdon, and the Rhone wine trail all the way to Lyon.

An ideal spot

This was our second stay in The Cottage at Mas de Rosemarie and, as before, we couldn't ask for a more ideal spot. Nick and Rosemary are always attentive without being intrusive and are so warm and welcoming. The Cottage is perfect for relaxing and unwinding in the Luberon, with a charming, authentic feel to it. The location is quiet yet accessible to nearby villages, vineyards and many restaurants in the area. Even with three other houses on the property, we felt we had privacy and hardly noticed we had neighbors.

Lovely week in the South of France

We had a very relaxing and comfortable week at Le mas - we stayed at the Cottage which sleeps six although we were a party of four (two adults, an 11 yr old and a 9 yr old). The owners were very helpful and pleasant but we didn't really see them much apart from check in and check out. The accommodation was situated in a very beautiful area with lots of attractions/restaurants close by in the car. The set up was chic but not so posh you couldn't relax. The outdoor space was just perfect for a family of four - the pool wasn't heated but it was so hot when we were there it wasn't a problem. I would recommend Le Mas de Rosemarie for a relaxing, sophisticated and comfortable self catering week. You need to book early as much of it gets booked up a year in advance - an indication of how well they do things. We would definitely consider going again.

Bliss...

Sometimes less is more, hence the title of this review.. Finishing up our second visit to Mas De Rosemarie and so sorry to be leaving.. last year we stayed for a week in late May in the Mas.. beautiful.. this time we stayed for ten days in early May in the Cottage.. bliss...!! 11 swims, 9 lunches, 5 games of tennis.. just perfect.. Nick and Rosemary are professionals.. always available but never intrusive.. leaving you to enjoy their properties as if you owned them..!! It’s a beautiful part of Provence.. far far from the madding crowds.. numerous pretty villages nearby with each offering at least one restaurant serving delicious food...!! As Arnie would say “we’ll be back”..!! Many times more.... Merci Rosemary and Nick..
