The Location

Scenes from the neighbouring village of Goult.

The house is in the countryside a few minutes from the hill-top villages of Lacoste, Bonnieux and Goult. Other gorgeous villages within 10 minutes are Menerbes, Gordes, Oppede-le-vieux, and Roussillon. This is the special part of the world that reached a wider audience with Peter Mayle's 'A Year in Provence', and the movie 'A Good Year', both based in the Luberon.

Goult, 2 miles away, is one of the less known jewels of the Luberon and has everything you would hope for in a Provencal village - honey-coloured houses climbing up to a medieval castle, wide country views, terraces of olive trees and stone shepherd's huts, and great places to eat and drink.

Lacoste, 3 miles away, is officially one of the Most Beautiful Villages of France, perfectly preserved since the middle ages, when the Marquis de Sade lived in the castle now occupied by Pierre Cardin. While Bonnieux, 3 miles away, is a fantastic village with plenty of restaurants from simple to Michelin-starred, and a great Friday morning market.

The Veloroute, a dedicated cycle route running the length of the Luberon, runs very close to the house and offers safe and easy cycling for all the family.

From this base you can explore the Luberon, its villages and markets, and close by you will also find AvignonFontaine de VaucluseIsle sur la Sorgue, Les Baux de Provence, St Remy, Aix en Provence, Orange, Arles, Nimes, Marseille, the Camargue, Gorges du Verdon, to name just some of the great days out an easy drive away. The fishing village of Cassis on the Mediterranean is 90 minutes away, and the French Riviera 2-3 hours.

Bonnieux is another of the nearby hill-top villages.
