Lourmarin apartment in 14 beautiful acres

A gorgeous 1-bedroom studio apartment on a remarkable 14-acre property at the gates of Lourmarin, with pool, olive groves, woods and vineyards. For maximum one couple only.

Living Room

The studio is up one flight of stairs and has living room and kitchen open-plan, passing through to the bedroom and bathroom through an arch. The high ceilings and antique furniture bring a feeling of grandeur to the space, while the modern kitchen and bathroom give all the comforts of home.

The studio opens out to the terrace by the kitchen, and through to the bedroom at the other end.

There are windows on three sides, which makes this a light space where the surrounding trees and gardens are always in view.

Comin in from the terrace. Well-equipped kitchen.

The kitchen is equipped with oven, 2-ring induction stove, fridge-freezer, dishwasher, microwave. Communal washing machine is downstairs. By the kitchen is the dining table and a sitting area with TV including some English-language news channels.

If this apartment is unavailable, or if you need a second bedroom, try its sister apartment Camus, and there is also the ground floor 1-bedroom Cocteau on the grounds.

The bedroom is separated from the living space by an arched doorway, and has a 1.6m-wide (5.25ft) bed, and large window looking over the garden. The en suite has shower, basin and WC.

When you stay on this property you follow in the footsteps of some notable figures from history - Albert Camus, Winston Churchill, Jean Cocteau for example - as this was the home of a well-known French writer. The sense of being in nature but 3 minutes' walk from Lourmarin has not changed since their time.

The apartment is one of three 1-bedroom rental units for couples only on a wonderful 14-acre estate next to Lourmarin castle. Each apartment has its own private terrace with outdoor dining and sunloungers.

The apartment is on the upper floor to the right. Entrance to apartment and bedroom window at upper left.

The pool is shared and is circular with a diameter of 8 metres. The pool is open from June to September.

The terrace facing south and west for the sunset.

The grounds of the property are a distillation of the Provence countryside, with a vineyard, olive groves, pine woods, cypress alley, lavender and fruit trees.

The drive leading to the property. Lourmarin castle seen from the property.

The grounds are so expansive that you can take a walk or jog without leaving the property.

There is off-street parking on the property.

The Location

Lourmarin with its Renaissance chateau and striking outline.

The apartment is in an amazing location, 5 minutes' walk to the centre of the much-coveted village of Lourmarin, so it takes 5 minutes to walk into the centre with its many restaurants, cafes spilling onto the street, and boutiques. Lourmarin is one of the star villages of the Luberon, and is alive year-round.

Lourmarin is very well situated for both the north and south Luberons. To the north you are 20-30 minutes from other celebrated hill-top villages of the Luberon, like Gordes, Roussillon, Lacoste, Menerbes, Goult, Oppede le vieux, etc. As well as towns like the antiques mecca of Isle sur la Sorgue, and Fontaine de Vaucluse, where the Sorgue river emerges fully formed from deep underground.

And to the south are more idyllic Luberon villages - Cucuron, Cadenet, Ansouis, etc. - less visited but equally picturesque. Market day in Lourmarin is Friday mornings and there are other markets every day of the week in neighbouring villages.

Within 45-90 minutes are the splendid Provence cities of Aix-en-Provence, Avignon, Arles, St Remy, Tarascon, Orange, Nimes, as well as the Camargue, Marseille, and the Rhone wine trail. The French Riviera is 2 hours away and you can be swimming in the sea in less than 90 minutes.

Scenes from the centre of Lourmarin, where cafes and restaurants abound, and market day is Friday.

Beautiful and peaceful

Natalie has redesigned her family home and mas with style and charm. It was a beautiful and very peaceful place to be in. A short walk into Loumarin and away from all the bustle. We just loved watching the sun go down over the vines from our terrace. And we enjoyed the pool on the hot days we were there. Natalie herself was very friendly and welcoming and spoke excellent English. She recommended restaurants and art galleries for us. We have suggested a fan for the bedroom as this summer was very hot in the area. There is a large deposit on the stay which guests should be aware of. Thank you Natalie for a great introduction to the Luberon

Ideal Lourmarin rental

The photos of the tasteful, authentic decor are true to the reality, with a small bathroom, and a comfortable bed. The swimming pool (20 strokes in the round) is shared with the other tenants. The photos on the site do not do justice to the generous private grounds (6 ha) with very old trees, hundreds of olive trees and a vineyard. This is very nice and demands a walk. The site borders directly onto the castle grounds and is very quiet, yet it is only a few minutes walk to the centre of Lourmarin. The car can be safely parked at the house (and that's a plus, especially in high season when parking in the village can be tricky). The entire site and the houses are family property (grandfather of Nathalie), and Nathalie is very hospitable, speaks English and knows a lot about the area. Nathalie lives elsewhere on the site.
