The Location

Lourmarin with its Renaissance chateau and striking outline.
The cottage is in an amazing location, 5 minutes' walk to the centre of the much-coveted village of Lourmarin, so it takes 5 minutes to walk into the centre with its many restaurants, cafes spilling onto the street, and boutiques. Lourmarin is one of the star villages of the Luberon, and is alive year-round.
Lourmarin is very well situated for both the north and south Luberons. To the north you are 20-30 minutes from other celebrated hill-top villages of the Luberon, like Gordes, Roussillon, Lacoste, Menerbes, Goult, Oppede le vieux, etc. As well as towns like the antiques mecca of Isle sur la Sorgue, and Fontaine de Vaucluse, where the Sorgue river emerges fully formed from deep underground.
And to the south are more idyllic Luberon villages - Cucuron, Cadenet, Ansouis, etc. - less visited but equally picturesque. Market day in Lourmarin is Friday mornings and there are other markets every day of the week in neighbouring villages.
Within 45-90 minutes are the splendid Provence cities of Aix-en-Provence, Avignon, Arles, St Remy, Tarascon, Orange, Nimes, as well as the Camargue, Marseille, and the Rhone wine trail. The French Riviera is 2 hours away and you can be swimming in the sea in less than 90 minutes.
