The kitchen is a chef's delight.

The kitchen is really well equipped for people who love to cook, with 5 gas rings, 1.5-size oven, American fridge-freezer with ice and water, dishwasher, microwave, Tassimo coffee machine and island unit for food preparation. The kitchen also opens out to the terrace through large patio doors. Next to the kitchen is the guest WC and utility with washing machine and tumble dryer.

Along the front of the house is the gravelled terrace and below that is the lawned pool level. The view is out over open countryside to the Montagne Sainte-Victoire near Aix-en-Provence.

The pool measures 10m x 5m (33 x 16ft) and has steps all along one end. It has a saltwater filtration system, so does not use chlorine, and is open from June to September (except by prior arrangement). For security there is an automatic sliding, rigid cover, as well as a lockable gate from the terrace. Around the pool are 6 sunloungers.

The pool house terrace with sails for shade.

The south-facing, gravelled terrace along the front of the house provides seating areas on comfortable garden furniture, and dining table under the shade of a pergola. Next to the dining table is a Weber gas barbecue.

Although in the village of Vaugines, the terrace and pool area are not overlooked, and there is nothing in the way of the far-reaching country views.

The Location

Lourmarin with its Renaissance chateau and striking outline.

The villa is in the quaint little village of Vaugines, 5 minutes from both Lourmarin and Cucuron. Vaugines, with its cafe and little grocery store, is so unchanged and picturesque that it was used for filming 'Jean de Florette'.

The much-coveted village of Lourmarin is full of restaurants and cafes spilling onto the street. Lourmarin is one of the star villages of the Luberon, and is alive year-round, notably on Friday mornings when it hosts a wonderful market.

Cucuron is a great Provence village, combining fantastic looks, medieval history and charm with all the amenities you need: bakeries, butchers, grocery store, bank, cafes and restaurants, and even a Michelin-starred restaurant (La Petite Maison). At the centre of the village of Cucuron is its huge water basin surrounded by centuries-old plane trees, which you may remember from the film 'A Good Year'. This is where the weekly market takes place every Tuesday morning.

The location is ideal for both the north and south Luberons. To the north you are 20-30 minutes from other celebrated hill-top villages of the Luberon, like Gordes, Roussillon, Lacoste, Menerbes, Goult, Oppede le vieux, etc. And to the south are more idyllic Luberon villages like Cadenet and Ansouis - less visited but equally picturesque.

Within 45-90 minutes are the splendid Provence cities of Aix-en-Provence, Avignon, Arles, St Remy, Tarascon, Orange, Nimes, as well as the Camargue, Marseille, and the Rhone wine trail. The French Riviera is 2 hours away and you can be swimming in the sea in less than 90 minutes.

Scenes from the centre of Lourmarin, where cafes and restaurants abound, and market day is Friday.

Perfect in every way

Our family of 4 had the most wonderful time at Amy’s beautiful home. It was clean and bright and had beautiful views. The kitchen is well equipped and has lovely large French doors like the rest of the home that look out onto these views. The bedrooms are pretty and comfortable with space for all your clothes. The master bath is large with tub and separate shower. The pool, patio, and outdoor seating are perfectly maintained and a relaxing place to spend your time when you are not traveling to the many adorable towns around the area. Amy is helpful and responsive. She provides you with ideas for restaurants and sight seeing - however being at the house was so enjoyable that you sometimes have to force yourself to leave it. We hope to return someday soon. It was one our favorite trips. Consider yourself lucky as we did to be able to stay in this lovely home.

Wonderful way to visit Provence

This was a clean, extremely well-located and fully-equipped house (kitchen, internet, bbq, washer/drier, etc.) with great views and a pool. We loved that it was located in the small, quiet village of Vaugines (population 600); we felt that we became part of the town and came to know the owners of its 3 local shops and restaurants. We could relax here for the day, but also pretty much see all sites and towns in Provence within an hour's drive or less, including our favorite town, Lourmarin, 3 miles away. The owner and her on-site manager have prepared a great guide to their favorite stops and restaurants and were available whenever needed. If you are driving, bring a good GPS for the area -- lots of roundabouts. Overall, our highest recommendation for any VRBO we have ever visited. Unlike some previous houses, it is as advertised, if not better!

Perfectly Put Together

We enjoyed a week in late May at this beautifully designed and thoughtfully appointed village house in Vaugines. Built into the side of a sloping street, once across the threshold the home opens to a lovely terrace with a 270 degree Provençal vista including Mount St. Victoire and the Luberon. Nicely decorated and carefully curated, this new as old reconstruction is perfectly equipped and organized for two couples plus a 'stray' or a family with young children. The sleek, modern kitchen really cooks. The gathering spaces lend themselves to intimate conversation. The pool surrounded by climbing roses is a bit of paradise. This home is nicely situated between the pretty towns of Lourmarin and Cucurron and close to host of prime markets, wineries and other local attractions. We would recommend this home to anyone looking for a cozy, comfortable, modern take on a traditional Provençal mas.
