Garden & Pool

To the back of the house is a very comfortable shaded terrace, and then the garden, with view of the village of Lourmarin.

The house has a gated entrance and secure parking space for three cars.

The Location

Lourmarin with its Renaissance chateau and striking outline.

The house has a wonderful location in the much-coveted village of Lourmarin, so it takes 1 minute to walk into the centre with its many restaurants, cafes spilling onto the street, and boutiques. Lourmarin is one of the star villages of the Luberon, and is alive year-round. If you like tennis the courts are 200 metres away.

Lourmarin is very well situated for both the north and south Luberons. To the north you are 20-30 minutes from other celebrated hill-top villages of the Luberon, like Gordes, Roussillon, Lacoste, Menerbes, Goult, Oppede le vieux, etc. As well as towns like the antiques mecca of Isle sur la Sorgue, and Fontaine de Vaucluse, where the Sorgue river emerges fully formed from deep underground.

And to the south are more idyllic Luberon villages - Cucuron, Cadenet, Ansouis, etc. - less visited but equally picturesque. Market day in Lourmarin is Friday mornings and there are other markets every day of the week in neighbouring villages.

Within 45-90 minutes are the splendid Provence cities of Aix-en-Provence, Avignon, Arles, St Remy, Tarascon, Orange, Nimes, as well as the Camargue, Marseille, and the Rhone wine trail. The French Riviera is 2 hours away and you can be swimming in the sea in less than 90 minutes.

Fabulous for short- or long-term stays

My husband and I did considerable research before selecting La Maraichere for a three-month stay this fall. We were not disappointed: it definitely lived up to its billing. It is really very special to have such a private, quiet and beautifully landscaped property just a few minutes walk from the heart of a vibrant village. The house is nicely designed and decorated in Provencal style. The owners have clearly put a lot of thought and care into the renovation and the creation of comfortable outdoor spaces. We felt “at home” right away and hated to leave. The local property manager was extremely responsive and helpful, and the owner readily available on-line to answer questions. We welcomed several sets of visitors through our stay, though we never had more than four people in residence at once. So our only caveat would be that while it easily sleeps eight, eight adults (if they are non-family) might feel a bit crowded for more than a short stay in late autumn when you can’t count on living outside a good deal of the time. That said, we would recommend La Maraichere for short- or long-term stays without hesitation and plan to return as soon as we can.

Perfect vacation choice

I thoroughly loved my stay at La Maraichere. Every detail of the beautiful villa’s decor and its surrounding gardens are a perfect combination of Provencal living and modernity in just the right proportions. Nearby Lourmarin – literally a 5 minute walk – is a charming village with superb restaurants, a grand weekly market, lovely shops as well as essential day to day grocery. Just minutes away by car, is the larger supermarket with everything you might want. Add in the central location from which to launch day trips throughout the region and you’ve got the perfect spot. I couldn’t have imagined a better choice.

A beautiful house - perfect

The house and its large garden is in a perfect position - near the centre of the village with easy access to the surrounding villages. The house was beautiful - immaculately clean, beautifully furnished and tastefully decorated. The house had a wide range of facilities and the garden and pool were clean and spotless. Sabine the housekeeper was very helpful and friendly and met us on arrival to explain everything about the house. She was also available to contact via e-mail/phone if we had any queries. The owners were great to deal with and the whole process, from booking to leaving, was kept stress-free. A great holiday in a beautiful house.
