The Location

Lourmarin with its Renaissance chateau and striking outline.

The house has a wonderful location in the much-coveted village of Lourmarin, so it takes 1 minute to walk into the centre with its many restaurants, cafes spilling onto the street, and boutiques. Lourmarin is one of the star villages of the Luberon, and is alive year-round. If you like tennis the courts are 200 metres away.

Lourmarin is very well situated for both the north and south Luberons. To the north you are 20-30 minutes from other celebrated hill-top villages of the Luberon, like Gordes, Roussillon, Lacoste, Menerbes, Goult, Oppede le vieux, etc. As well as towns like the antiques mecca of Isle sur la Sorgue, and Fontaine de Vaucluse, where the Sorgue river emerges fully formed from deep underground.

And to the south are more idyllic Luberon villages - Cucuron, Cadenet, Ansouis, etc. - less visited but equally picturesque. Market day in Lourmarin is Friday mornings and there are other markets every day of the week in neighbouring villages.

Within 45-90 minutes are the splendid Provence cities of Aix-en-Provence, Avignon, Arles, St Remy, Tarascon, Orange, Nimes, as well as the Camargue, Marseille, and the Rhone wine trail. The French Riviera is 2 hours away and you can be swimming in the sea in less than 90 minutes.

Charming house in the heart of a village

We stayed in this beautiful house for ten days in August. The location couldn’t be better. It’s less than two minutes walk to the local boulangerie and four minutes to a range of cafes, ice cream shops and restaurants. The garden had enough shade for the baby and enough sun to keep my husband happy! The house itself is comfortable with chic linen sofas and a variety of beautiful paintings. The kitchen is well equipped and we loved the range oven and outdoor barbecue. Food shopping in the village is quite limited but we did large food shops in the supermarket a couple of ins outside town. We really enjoyed our time and Harald couldn’t have been friendlier or more accommodating.

The most perfect setting for a family break

We had a lovely time in the house, which is truly set within the most stunning Provence town of Lourmarin, though with the house set back down a quiet street you really don't feel like you are that close and can enjoy peace and quiet when lounging back in the house by the pool or having dinner outside. There was more than enough space for all of us and everything we needed to enjoy ourselves whether inside or outside the property. The only downside was that we didn't stay longer and have a chance to explore more of the surrounding area. We will be back!!!!

Home from Home

We stayed at Maison de Lourmarin for two weeks this year and only regret that it couldn't have been longer. Despite its central village location, within a minute of the main street, the house is extremely quiet and private. There was no noise from either adjoining property or from the surrounding area. The house is very tastefully furnished and decorated whilst being wonderfully comfortable and easy to live in. It's well equipped for those like us who prefer to cook and eat in most of the time. The garden is beautifully maintained and, again, private with a good sized pool; enough natural shade to protect from the sun; and plenty of sitting and eating areas. This was our fifth holiday in Lourmarin and is for sure the house that we'll return to next year if it's available. Finally: we could not thank Simone, the guardian, enough. She was wonderfully welcoming and tirelessly helpful.
