The Location

Lourmarin with its Renaissance chateau and striking outline.

The house has a wonderful location in the much-coveted village of Lourmarin, so it takes 1 minute to walk into the centre with its many restaurants, cafes spilling onto the street, and boutiques. Lourmarin is one of the star villages of the Luberon, and is alive year-round. If you like tennis the courts are 200 metres away.

Lourmarin is very well situated for both the north and south Luberons. To the north you are 20-30 minutes from other celebrated hill-top villages of the Luberon, like Gordes, Roussillon, Lacoste, Menerbes, Goult, Oppede le vieux, etc. As well as towns like the antiques mecca of Isle sur la Sorgue, and Fontaine de Vaucluse, where the Sorgue river emerges fully formed from deep underground.

And to the south are more idyllic Luberon villages - Cucuron, Cadenet, Ansouis, etc. - less visited but equally picturesque. Market day in Lourmarin is Friday mornings and there are other markets every day of the week in neighbouring villages.

Aix-en-Provence is 30 minutes away, and 60-90 minutes away are the splendid Provence cities of Avignon, Arles, St Remy, Tarascon, Orange, Nimes, as well as the Camargue, Marseille, and the Rhone wine trail. The French Riviera is 2 hours away and you can be swimming in the sea in less than 90 minutes.

Fantastic House in a Gorgeous French Village

We were a group of friends meeting up in France for a College Reunion and it was my responsibility to book the Accommodation - I completely lucked out with this beautiful house. The Traditional French Village House is located at the edge of Lourmarin Village (1 minute walk to get fresh Croissants in the morning), so close to everything that you did not need a car but at the edge of the village so you had a bit of space and privacy. The House was equipped with everything you would need for a fantastic stay - extremely comfortable beds, lovely linens, plenty of towels and the bonus of a wonderful swimming pool in the garden. The house contains 4 Double Bedroom, some can be set up as twins - which worked great for us as we were not all couples - the bathrooms are clean and modern with great showers. There is a chill out room with TV which is great to escape to from the hot mid-day sun. The kitchen is equipped with everything you might need, plenty of cutlery and crockery and glasses and there is a wonderful long antique dining table to gather about for evening suppers. This area also contains a huge fireplace that I imagine is wonderful to sit around in the cooler winter months - making this house an ideal 'all round year' rental. The highlight is the wonderful garden area - although small it is an oasis equipped with comfortable sun loungers and an fantastic covered eating terrace. Lots of stories of College Days were re-told while sipping cool glasses of Rosé here at this table... with a 'Cave' located beside the terrace containing a dishwasher and bathroom facilities - everything has been thought of. Finally the pool - what a wonderful way to cool down, designed with 2 fountains the sound of water is so inviting it is difficult to resist. The location of this house has to be mentioned also - at the edge of one of the Lubernon's most beautiful villages, it has everything - wonderful restaurants, great bars, beautiful shops and a Friday Market that is to be highly recommended - sit in Gaby's on the main thoroughfare and people watch - in France it is an art form! Don't forget to sample some of the local wines and a visit to the surrounding vineyards is a great day out, buying directly makes you realise how cheap and good the local wine is. If you do have a car make sure you explore the surrounding area as it really is a beautiful part of the country and there are so many picturesque French Villages that I challenge you not to fall in love with the area and come back year after year... I am already planning my next trip and a stay in Maison de Savornin is top of my list.

Our favourite place in the Luberon

Lourmarin is my favorite village in Provence and we know it well, having traveled here for long and short stays for twenty years. This beautiful village house is, hands down, our favorite place in the Luberon to hang our hats. We stayed in this lovely home for several weeks in August and September. There are three in our family and we had several guests during our stay. First, the house is immaculately clean, comfortable, and well-equipped. The common areas and the bedrooms are spacious and bright. The full bathrooms are very large and very nicely appointed. Considering the number of people the home can accommodate, there is adequate space to have privacy and multiple areas to socialize. We spent much of our time outdoors, lounging around the pristine pool and eating meals at the large table near the pool. The downstairs kitchen and toilet were especially helpful for this location. We enjoy cooking and found the kitchen a very inviting place to prepare our feasts! The cupboards are filled with very nice dishes and glasses for the crowd you might invite to your feast, too. The long table upstairs was great for our meals (as well as our work—I set up my laptop there for writing and was very inspired!). The AC was adequate and the gorgeous fireplace certainly encourages us to return in the colder months. Second, the location of the home—on the main street through the village—is ideal to soak up village life but it is also located at the quiet end of the street so it is easy to relax and sleep soundly. One can quite literally roll out of bed and be at the local Boulangerie purchasing croissants before the table is set. A Nespresso machine makes great espressos in your own vacation home to accompany your bakery goods. Or, a wee bit further is Café Gaby and several other cafés where you will find goods to quench your morning thirst and fortify you for your day’s adventure (and provide you with the best people watching in the area!). Third, there are plenty of things to do in Lourmarin once you can wrench yourself away from the pool. Consider the chateau, shopping, gallery hopping, a tour of the village filled with its fascinating history, or winetasting—all within walking distance. The Friday morning market is considered the best in the area and, during the summer months, the Tuesday evening market is a real treat. (Markets in neighboring villages are also wonderful.) Venture a little further in your car and there is a wealth of beauty and sight-seeing to satisfy even the toughest-to-please guests. Lourmarin is perfectly located to act as your hub during vacation. Finally, Walter, the caretaker, ensures that all your needs are met. He is a tremendous asset! Lourmarin captured our hearts and the Maison de Savornin is my top choice for a large family or group of friends. We loved it and continue to recommend it!

Fabulous family house in beautiful location!

We had a brilliant family holiday in this picturesque and tranquil village. Our accommodation was perfect with lots of space, comfortable beds and lovely bathrooms. The kitchen and dining area were ideal with a long table for big family meals in the evenings. We loved the outside space too. The pool was great for the children and the covered terrace was perfect for al fresco lunches in the shade. Having the 'cave' downstairs by the pool with a little additional kitchen and extra toilet and laundry facilities made it very comfortable. The owners have furnished the house stylishly and it makes for a very relaxing stay. The house is perfectly located and within walking distance of the bars, restaurants, children's playground, churches and castle. We enjoyed the weekly market, exploring the lanes and the kids loved our morning visits to the boulangerie for fresh croissants and bread! Conveniently, there is a fantastic pizzeria a stone's throw from the house... and our evening aperitifs at the local bar in the centre of the village quickly became de rigueur! Driving around the region is also easy and you can visit nearby towns (they all have lovely markets!). There are lots of vineyards too which would be great to visit if you're into your wine and of course, the breathtaking views of the countryside make you feel completely peaceful. The owner provided great customer service and was very responsive and accommodating. We had a fabulous time, will be going back and would recommend it to others looking for a relaxing holiday in a truly beautiful part of the world!
