Authentic farmhouse renovation near Menerbes for 8 + 2

A 4-bedroom farmhouse dating back to the 1770s, recently renovated with care to preserve the old and add modern convenience, in a very peaceful setting 2km from the stunning village of Menerbes. The house sleeps 8-10 people in 4 en-suite bedrooms.

Living Rooms

The house was renovated in 2017 using Provencal materials: local stone, terracotta, wood, wrought iron. The interior is warm and elegant, with natural colours and materials.

On the ground floor are two living rooms, dining room and kitchen, all opening out to the courtyard. The living rooms are interconnected and on different levels with steps in between.

 

Both living rooms have a stone fireplace and exposed ceiling beams. These original features are married to the new: WiFi internet throughout, Sonos wireless music system, and TV/BluRay with both French and international news channels. The dining room also has an upright piano.

The heart of the home is the large kitchen and farmhouse table, which opens out to the outdoor dining table.

 

 

The kitchen has double range oven, 6-ring gas stove, dishwasher, Nespresso and filter coffee machine. In the adjoining pantry are the American fridge-freezer with ice and water dispensers, as well as washing machine and dryer.



Bedrooms

There are 4 bedrooms, each with en suite bathroom, and the children's room can sleep up to 4, so the house can accommodate 8 adults or 10 including children. All bedrooms are upstairs and two are air-conditioned.

Bedroom 1 (above) is air-conditioned and has a canopy bed that is 1.6m/5.25ft wide, with writing desk by the window. The en suite bathroom (below), which is down 5 steps, has walk-in shower, double basins and WC.

Bedroom 2 (above) is a dual aspect room with either a 1.8m-wide (6ft) bed or two single beds, and a writing desk. The en suite bathroom (below) has walk-in shower, double basins and WC.

Bedroom 3 (above) is air-conditioned and overlooks the garden and pool, with a 1.6m-wide (5.25ft) bed. Its bathroom has walk-in shower, double basins and WC.

Bedroom 4 is ideal for children with two single beds, or these can also be brought together to make one king-size double. Up the ladder to the mezzanine level are two more berths. The en suite bathroom (below) has walk-in shower, clawfoot bath, double basins and WC.

There is also an emergency bedroom just in case, which is in the room above the bread oven in the courtyard - just a single bed and no bathroom.



Garden & Pool

Outside the property has three distinct areas: the pool, the courtyard and the kitchen terrace.

 

To the back of the house is the pool area with sunloungers and parasols. The pool measures 9.5m x 4.5m (31 x 15ft), and has a sliding electronic cover for security.

 

Around the pool the garden is planted with olive trees, cypresses, lavender, rosemary, thyme and many other Mediterranean herbs and flowers.

The inner courtyard faces south and is enclosed (good for wind and to keep children inside). There is a shaded dining table, a Weber BBQ, and that summer essential - an outdoor, wood-burning pizza oven, which was the bread oven in centuries past.

Outside the kitchen is another dining table (above), shaded by the old mulberry tree: a cool spot on a hot day.

 

The house is on a very quiet country track, 2km from the village of Menerbes, at the foot of the Luberon mountain in great walking country.

This house is 2km (1.3 miles) from the wonderful village of Menerbes, with bakery, bar and restaurants on the doorstep.

Menerbes rises up like a ship from the sea of vineyards that run along the Luberon valley and is officially one of 'The Most Beautiful Villages of France'.

The village of Menerbes has ancient buildings, towers and churches, with narrow streets that wind their way up to the square at the top of the village. From up here there are lovely views of the surrounding countryside, the Luberon mountain and Mont Ventoux. In the centre of Menerbes are four restaurants, a bar, baker and a grocery store.

All the other picture-perfect 'perched' hill-top villages of the Luberon are within 15 minutes by car: Gordes, Bonnieux, Roussillon, Lacoste, Oppede-le-Vieux and Goult. Just beyond are the antiques capital of Isle-sur-la-Sorgue and the very lovely Fontaine de Vaucluse.

Within an hour are Avignon, Aix-en-Provence, St Remy, Mont Ventoux, Les Baux de Provence, Orange, and the start of the Rhone wine trail.

There is a market every day in one of the surrounding villages, and in Menerbes itself there is a market on Thursdays.

You can make a comfortable day-trip of the Cote d'Azur from Monte Carlo to St Tropez, Marseille, the fishing village of Cassis and the calanques, Arles, Nimes, the Camargue, the Alps, the Gorges du Verdon, and the Rhone wine trail all the way to Lyon.

One of the best houses there is ..

What an incredibly beautiful and well equipped house with thoughtful owners, wonderful housekeepers and such a fantastic location. As a family of four with 4 year old twins (one of whom has special needs) this house was just perfect. Mature and beautiful gardens and courtyard, with a pool that could be closed behind a garden door was critical for the safety of our son in particular. The kitchen is well equipped with everything you could think of needing, the supermarket a 7 min drive away and the village just 5 min (or a 20 min walk). All bedrooms are large and airy, all with en-suite bathrooms which made having additional guests easy. There are two or three options for eating outside as well as having space in the kitchen for 10. If available, we would return again and again - a very special house and wonderful memories.

The best house

We spend together with our dog three weeks in this property. It was like in paradise: it is thre absolutly calm and relaxant, the house and the garden with the pool is so nice and in a very high quality, much more standard as you can aspect for a holyday house. It is a very old house with a lot of charme, the owner has just renovated the whole ensemble with an high aim: old and warm materials, nice colors, the interior fits to the caracter of the house, the carpets, the cushions, the linen - all is harmoniously and very tasteful. The layout is the best you can realise: two Living Rooms, a spaceful kitchen (very high equiped) with a big table and a connection with a terrasse, the 4 bedrooms have all a ensuite bathroom, the layout with the splitlevel is perfect. The reality is much better than the fotos, the highlight is the view to the Mont Ventoux from the garden. The listing description is accurate regarding the location and the facilities. The property was clean and well maintained, Chris and Sylvia are the best caretaker we`ve ever had. It was our 8th stay in the Provence, this house was the best we have ever had and we highly recommend this property.

An extraordinary country house!

This is truly a little slice of paradise!!! The house is simply stunning: completely renovated with exquisite taste (so many small, stylish and unique touches!), it incorporates all modern amenities while respecting the wonderful historic character of the place. It is also very well appointed: top-quality towels and bed-linen, beautiful and plentiful tableware, fully-equipped kitchen, etc. It was such a pleasure setting up picture-perfect dinner tables inside or out in the courtyard! The Mas is set in a beautiful spot: isolated for peace and quiet, but within walking distance of Ménerbes village (a 2.5km walk on a very small (and lovely) country road) - a very pleasant walk early in the morning to pick fresh croissants. We were also able to pick up the marked hiking trails of the Parc régional naturel du Luberon from the link provided by Filip on the Mas' website - from right outside the house - no need to drive to a trailhead parking! We really appreciated the many small touches intended to facilitate our stay (stocking of basic spices, coffee, sugar, cleaning products, etc. and a welcome gift-basket from Filip). Silvia (property manager) who met us on arrival was charming and very helpful. She took the time to tour the house with us to ensure that we had all the information needed and encouraged us to call her if we had any queries. The house clearly stands out from other properties that we have rented in the past. It is exceptional - we loved it and hope to be back soon!

Included in the rate: bedlinen, towels, pool towels, utilities, WiFi internet and end of stay-clean.

To make a booking you would pay a 50% deposit, with the balance payable up to 8 weeks before your stay.

Rental periods run Saturday-Saturday, minimum period of 1 week, from 5pm on the first day, to 10am on the last day. Sunday-Sunday stays are possible by common agreement.
 Cancellation policy: if we can find another renter for your dates we will return any money sent (minus bank charges).

The security deposit against breakage or damage is 1000 euros, and is returned after your stay.

The house is for a maximum of 8 adults, or 10 people with children included. Smoking is not allowed in the house. Pets are allowed by common agreement, at an extra charge.
