Mas de la Lavande - Location

The Location

Mas de la Lavande is 2 miles from the village of Menerbes, which is where Peter Mayle was inspired to write 'A Year in Provence', and 5 miles from Bonnieux, where the film 'A Good Year' is set.

Menerbes is a picture-perfect village 1 mile from the house, with restaurants, bar and food shops.

The defining feature of the Luberon is beautiful Provence countryside studded with the many perched, hilltop villages, like Menerbes, Gordes, Bonnieux, Roussillon, Lacoste, etc. Close by too are medieval cities like Avignon, Arles, and Tarascon, beautiful towns like St Remy, Aix, Fontaine de Vaucluse, and Isle sur la Sorgue, which is well known all over Europe for its antiques and bric-a-brac market.

The countryside here made up of a patchwork of vineyards and fruit orchards, punctuated by hilltop villages - it is wonderful touring country and you can stop off at wineries for some wine-tasting wherever you drive. There are endless hikes and bike rides all around, and 4 golf courses within one hour's drive.

In the summer the Luberon is a cultural hotbed, with concerts, arts and music festivals, theatre and other events taking place almost every night - venues range from opera at the quarry at Lacoste to the arts festival in Avignon and the stunning Roman amphitheatre of Orange.

The unmissable village of Gordes, and close by, the lavender at Senanque Abbey.

The Cote d'Azur (Cannes, Monte Carlo, St Tropez, etc.) is 2.5 hours away, and other attractions like Les Baux, Nimes, the Camargue, Cassis and Marseille are 60-90 minutes drive.
