Menerbes One, Menerbes, Provence

Wonderful views from 1-bedroom luxury Menerbes rental

A 1-bedroom haven at the highest point of Menerbes, above the vineyards, facing the full beauty of the Luberon mountain, perfect for romantic couples, artists seeking inspiration, and those who just love the idea of Provence.

Living Room

This village house sleeps two in great comfort, and is beautifully furnished and decorated. Some of the furnishings are antiques, some, like the kitchen, are hand-made.

The house was built as a peasant's dwelling and to maximise the available volume it has been renovated as one open space (apart from the bathroom), with the bedroom on a mezzanine above the living room and kitchen. This means all the light and glorious views pour into the whole house.

The windows that open onto the Luberon are remarkably generous. Eight feet high, and then there is the balcony beyond, with unmatched views, suspended over the full glory of Provence.

The kitchen has an oven and 4-ring cooker, coffee machine, kettle, fridge with small freezer compartment, washing machine/dryer, and waste disposal in the sink.

This property has high-speed wireless internet; satellite TV/DVD with movie library; Bluettooth music speaker.

The bed is up on the mezzanine level, next to the bathroom.

The bed is 1.6m wide (5.25ft), and is up on the mezzanine level.

Even when you are in bed there are three different views to choose from - the Luberon Mountain, down the valley to the sunset, and over the rooftops of Menerbes.

The en-suite bathroom with hand-made tiles has a large walk-in shower, basin and WC.

 View over rooftops from bedroom.

The sun terrace opens out from the living room, giving you a bigger plot of Menerbes real estate to stretch out in, sunbathe, pile on the pounds, take in the views.

The terrace with stunning view, table and chairs, and sun loungers.

The house has its own off-street parking space, a rarity in a hill-top village, and being at the top of Menerbes away from the centre, this is a quiet, peaceful setting. There is no traffic noise - the street is dead-end and only used by the few houses along it.

The Location

Menerbes on its hilltop from the north.
The square at the top.

High above the cares of the world, but just a two-minute stroll down the hill to the village life of Menerbes, this is an ideal year-round haven for couples who love Provence, whether you want to explore or stay at home and be inspired by the view and the light.

Menerbes rises up like a ship from the sea of vineyards that run along the Luberon valley, and is a member of the prestigious assocation 'The Most Beautiful Villages of France'.

The village of Menerbes has ancient buildings, towers and churches, with narrow streets that wind their way up to the square at the top of the village. From up here there are lovely views of the surrounding countryside, the Luberon mountain and Mont Ventoux. The house is at this top level too, which sets it apart from the shops and restaurants a two-minute stroll down the hill.

In the centre of Menerbes are three good restaurants, a bar, baker and grocery store. The seasonal market is on Thursday mornings.

Menerbes is at the heart of the Luberon, which is a protected natural park. Peter Mayle wrote his bestseller 'A Year in Provence' here in Menerbes. Picasso was equally inspired to install his mistress, the artist Dora Maar, a few doors down from the house.

Within 15 minutes of Menerbes are other outstanding villages like Gordes, Roussillon, Lacoste, Oppede le vieux, Bonnieux, and Goult. Just beyond are the antiques capital of Isle sur la Sorgue and the very lovely Fontaine de Vaucluse.

Within an hour are Avignon, Aix-en-Provence, St Remy, Mont Ventoux, Les Baux de Provence, Orange, and the start of the Rhone wine trail.

We stayed at « Menerbes One » the last 2 weeks of April 2018. Menerbes is a charming hill top little village. Besides being very nice in itself it is well located as it is near others villages and small towns like Gordes, Isle sur la Sorgue etc…We specially enjoy the calm of the village and were delighted to have good suggestions from Coralie at the Maison de la Truffe et du vin regarding our choice of wine for our different meal. The apartment offer a perfect location as it is located on the top of the village. Having lunch or dinner on the veranda is priceless given the magnificent view. The apartment is small but we never felt it as it is high and open. Mr Paolis was very nice upon our arrival and the bottle of wine he gave us was a very good start for our vacations. It s our second stay at « Menerbes one » but it wont be the last.

A wonderful week

Menerbes is a great location for exploring the Luberon, and this apartment is a comfortable haven in this beautiful town. We hired bikes and explored the surrounding area - recommend e-bikes if you are not used to hills! We liked the relaxed feel, and the sense of privacy. We spent most evenings eating dinner on the patio, or strolling down to one of several bars for a sunset drink over the vineyards. We avoided the Michelin style restaurants; rather we most enjoyed the lunchtime menu du jour at smaller restaurants in the area. One day we cycled up Mt Ventoux (we earned our meals that day), and the Fontaine de Vaucluse is an impressive phenomenon, albeit touristy. We also made it through several books during our stay - a sign of a relaxing vacation! Thanks Paolo, you have a great little place!

This is the perfect place to stay in the charming village of Menerbes. From the amazing views over the rooftops of Menerbes or across vineyards to the Luberon Mountain to the immaculate, beautiful house with a kitchen that has everything you might need to the well stocked library of books and DVD's with comfortable seating this house is perfect for a wonderful holiday. Our daily walks through the village with its friendly, welcoming people and drives though the surrounding countryside to visit other perched villages and their markets were all the better knowing we had the perfect place to return to.
