The house is in the main street of Menerbes, close to the restaurants and next to the picturesque little grocery store. There is no through-traffic in the village and visitors are encouraged by the one-way system to park and walk around, so the centre has something of a pedestrianised feel to it.
The Location
![]() | ![]() |
This house is right in the centre of the wonderful village of Menerbes, with bakery, bar and restaurants on the doorstep.
Menerbes rises up like a ship from the sea of vineyards that run along the Luberon valley and is officially one of 'The Most Beautiful Villages of France'.
The village of Menerbes has ancient buildings, towers and churches, with narrow streets that wind their way up to the square at the top of the village. From up here there are lovely views of the surrounding countryside, the Luberon mountain and Mont Ventoux. In the centre of Menerbes are four restaurants, a bar, baker and a grocery store.
All the other picture-perfect 'perched' hill-top villages of the Luberon are within 15 minutes by car: Gordes, Bonnieux, Roussillon, Lacoste, Oppede le vieux and Goult. Just beyond are the antiques capital of Isle sur la Sorgue and the very lovely Fontaine de Vaucluse.
Within an hour are Avignon, Aix-en-Provence, St Remy, Mont Ventoux, Les Baux de Provence, Orange, and the start of the Rhone wine trail.
There is a market every day in one of the surrounding villages, and in Menerbes itself there is a market on Thursdays.
You can make a comfortable day-trip of the Cote d'Azur from Monte Carlo to St Tropez, Marseille, the fishing village of Cassis and the calanques, Arles, Nimes, the Camargue, the Alps, the Gorges du Verdon, and the Rhone wine trail all the way to Lyon.

Beautiful spacious cottage
We had a wonderful stay in Menerbes Cottage for 6 nights and wished it could have been for longer. The cottage is so centrally located in the village, just two steps out the front door from cafes, restaurants (Les Saveurs Gourmandes - our favourite) and two boulangeries. It was lovely to spend our time in the spacious and beautifully styled living areas with a fabulous covered terrace where we had our meals and glasses of wine looking out to the beautiful Luberon hills and the golden light of the late afternoon/early evening. Menerbes is a a gorgeous village to locate to explore the region. It is full of historic ambiance and interest to spend time in and to wander the streets on the outer parts lined with stone walls and oak trees and stunning views. We drove each day exploring more places in the Luberon Valley (this being my 3rd visit) and also the Alpilles area. We especially loved the villages Oppede le Vieux and Saignon. It was a bonus to have easily accessible parking to come home to just down the street from the cottage. Thank you Eva for your kindness and hospitality. We can't wait to come back some day and will be recommending your cottage to anyone we know planning a trip to the South of France from the Antipodes.

Perfect base for a week in the luberon
This is delightful house. Very comfortable and well equipped. Very pleasant to be in the centre of the village with all the little shops supplying all our needs. The veranda is a bonus with its view of the hills and the ideal spot for all meals. Eva and Niels were extremely welcoming and happy to give advice on places to visit and eat. Highly recommended.
